Beauvoir and summer birthdays

It is an issue of the child's readiness, not the school's.

We were told the same at GDS when we toured to apply our late-summer-birthday boy for kindergarten. We decided to wait, and were accepted for K. I believe the cut-off is June 1. I think there might be exceptions here and there (i.e., for siblings), but not many.

We were told by Primary Day School they would only consider our DS for K (we were relocating to DC and he was already in K) because he had a summer b-day. And this was without even meeting us or him. They suggested we have him repeat K because that's how they do things around here and that they (Primary) had a unique program. We did observe and the K's did seem to be reading and writing at a 1st grade level (compared to our DS). So they accepted him and offered us K - we decided in the end on Beauvoir for 1st.

I thought Beauvoir only admitted students in Pre K and K

By the way, don't you just love the term "gift of a year?" It sounds so Dr Phil.....

I'm actually surprised you got a spot for Beauvoir for 1st. It is very very rare to see a kid enter in another year beside Pre-K and K.

So good for you.
