Beauvoir and summer birthdays

Anonymous
Does anyone know whether Beauvoir actually admits boys with summer birthdays into the pre-K program when they have just turned 4, or into the K program when they have just turned 5?
Thanks.

I heard from someone who had a slightly older daughter already at the school - they rejected his son for pre-k because he had a late summer birthday and essentially kept him back a year.

Are you trying to make excuses for your childs rejection letter?

OP here.
PP, what a mean and wholly unnecessary thing to say. My son is about to start preschool and we are just beginning to look at options for later years. I had thought that this would be a good time to ask the question because it seems that so many people are on the board these days discussing admissions issues. Perhaps you are the one who should be making excuses for yourself.

07:53 WHY that attitude? Come on, this is too much! OP just had a simple question. What is going on here.

They turned 5 last summer and were admitted into K last September. They will turn 6 this summer so they were not held back.

We are a Beauvoir family and our son was accepted with a summer b-day, turned 5 right before K started.

Beauvoir parent. I can say in my son's class, it was about half and half. Half of the summer boys (this is only a boy issue) were "grade appropriate" and half were "kept back". It certainly was not uncommon to have 5 year old boys entering pre-k.

so if you hold back you just repeat prek in a different class? does the child know that his friends are moving on? i wonder how they explain that? just curious as my son is very aware of everything. i wonder how i would explain that to him.

I DON'T get this...why boys? I think that if you can't handle the average 5 year old boy in Kindergarten, then don't be in the primary education business.

I have a late summer boy, and I don't know about Beavoir but GDS told us don't even bother to apply 'on schedule.' actually I think their cut-off is June 1.

Anyway, DS is getting the 'gift of a year' an will do preK and then, depending on your phrasing, more preK or junior K. (some preschools have this designated class).

As a parent you have great control over the message, and so we'll tell him that he gets to go to his same beloved school next year and play on his same beloved playground. When he asks why Johnny's not there with him, I'll tell him Johnyy's going to a different school and soon he will, too. No plans here to elaborate on "readiness", emotional IQ and the like
