This guy assaulted cops and was set free and a few days later he raped a woman in Columbia Heights.

Oh my gosh this is horrific.

Popville only reports on crime that happens in neighborhoods where white people live. He ignores EOTR, where these types of crimes happen every day. Hmmm, wonder why.

He is a garbage person. I hope he rots in jail.

Just get over it, women will continues to be raped.

Why would you assume he was mentally ill? There are many violent, evil people in this world.

DP, but the article mentions a mental health assessment. Also, his actions as described sound like either he was on drugs and/or has mental health problems.

In DC we call those people 'free birds'. We have no legislation to involuntarily commit them and the police don't want (nor should they be) social workers. Maybe we need to task it to the librarians?

Providing mental health care does not mean that a person will stop being violent. Violence is not an issue that mental health practitioners can treat.

And I'm so tired of the "but mental health" line. Women who are mentally ill don't rape people or commit violent crimes. Or at least, nowhere NEAR the rates that men do.

Women unfortunately don’t have the muscle. Duh.

So you’re saying a behavior associated with mental illness isn’t legitimate unless it’s exhibited by both sexes? WTF?!!
Statistically men commit suicide at a significantly higher rate than women. Are you saying men who take their own lives don’t really have mental health issues because women don’t pull the trigger, pop the pills, or jump of buildings as frequently?

No, of course not.
But here’s another thing it is:
Boys and men tend to express their rage outwards - towards others, while girls and women tend to express their rage inwards - towards themselves. You should study this phenomenon.

Then they should stay committed, if they fall in that category.

I dont really understand the argument... people who have shown a proclivity to hurt others should not be released... if ill treat them until better with conditions they stay on monitored medication, if simply violent then jail, if both then both

So? Is a blog required to focus on a whole city? Even more fundamentally, that doesn't mean the reported crime isn't happening and terrifying. I don't think we should be complacent about crime because EOTR is worse. To the extent you want to have a policy debate about how to use DCPD resources, then the comparisons are relevant.

Complain to Nadeau. She admitted their programs aren’t working but that they need to keep doing them anyway. Police are fed up with the entire system. This whole council is anti-police.

Woman in Woodbridge area tried to kill her kids this AM. Guess she’s an exception?
