I only have one box of pasta. I must go buy more, for I cannot live without pasta. Apple cider and limes, my new replacement for coffee. I don't have any...so off to stock up. |
It is so funny to me to see everyone freak out about snow. Now really, are they freaking out about being stranded? Because I would like to know what the real problem is. I would also like to know why everything shuts down. Isn't this the U.S. Capital? I loved it when Obama said something last year about his kids not having school. HA! |
As someone who grew up in the south, I can say I am planning on hunkering down for the weekend. I frankly have not had experience driving in the snow, and don't want to gain that experience with my toddler strapped in her car seat. My husband, who grew up in CO and DOES have experience driving in the snow, nevertheless got in a bad black ice accident with me in the car one Christmas and it only took one spin off across a dark highway and a car smashing up against the guardrail on a curve, praying no one would hit the same patch and hit us while we were assessing the damage, that has me TOTALLY against driving in the snow and ice. Scariest experience of my life, trying to find help that night and freezing our assess off (this happened in Ohio). Anyway, I admit it's crazy but many people around here just aren't comfortable getting around in it because we don't experience in that much. |
It's not the snow that is the huge concern. It's the bad ice we get in this area. We all kind of make fun of ourselves and the panic over snowy weather but the icy conditions are very dangerous. |
I went out for dog food! Didn't want the pup to go hungry all weekend. |
I've lived here my whole life and I have never "stocked up" before a snowstorm. Seriously, couldn't most people walk to a store if needed? I live in the 'burbs, and am still in walking distance to several grocery stores... |
You are just too cool! |
I went to Costco first thing (no groceries at all-planned this all week) and there was not one parking spot and about 100 cars circling the lot. |
Ah, the circling buzzards around Costco. When I see that, I keep on drivin'. Ain't nothing I need bad enough to have to gird my loins for battle at Costco... |
I kept going too. I also have a Sam's club membership and went there. |
Well, with 2 small toddlers, I am forever running out of milk and fresh fruit so that is what I went out to get and of course since I was there stocked up on some yummies for us and dinner for tomorrow.
Even though I know the roads will be ok by Sunday - I still dont want to run out to the store with 2 kids in the cold and snow and slip and slide through the parking lot with a cart. So why not go to the store? To each their own. |
Here's the thing. EVERY year we get ice. EVERY year our tax money fails us. EVERY year the place shuts down. WHY are people okay with this? I understand if you are not used to snow. That is not the point. |
Well, I used up all my food because we were supposed to be going out of town. But our airline ALREADY cancelled our flight and rebooked us for the next day. So we have nothing to eat. And I'll need my Diet Coke fix.
This area doesn't get snow enough to justify the snow-removal crew other parts of the East have, so it's understandable to me that there is a delay in clearing the streets. |
I can guarantee you if we get 15-20 inches, the roads will not be fine by Sunday. Do you remember the 1996 storm? People went days without a plow even touching some side streets. The federal government was shut down for an entire week. |
I don't agree with you, but I guess we'll see. The plowing has been on point for many years now. I probably won't try an go anywhere tomorrow, but I'm not that worried about Sunday unless the snow hasn't let up. The biggest problem I foresee are people in cars and trucks that are rear wheel drive. They can't handle any amount of snow and ice. |
