Maryland has a bicycle helmet law for kids under age 16

District of Columbia have statewide bicycle helmet laws, and they apply only to young riders younger than 16

Two of my neighbors, both moms, have told me this fall when they have seen my elementary school child riding on our street without a helmet. Yes it's a bit embarrassing to me as a mom, but both my husband and I were so happy they told us. Safety before feelings. My child knows there are eyes on him when he tries to get away with that!

Tell the parents.

By kinder, the child knows the rules, but it’s up to the adult to remind the child. Most kids don’t like helmets, and unless the helmet stays on the bike handle, they will “forget.”

Should I tell them that I saw their kid riding a bike to school without a helmet? The nanny was walking/jogging along the kid. On one hand, I'm inclined to let it go. On the other hand, I would have a helmet rule for my kid and I'm sure they do too.

Maybe the parents told her kid doesn't need to wear helmet. Mind your own damn business!
