Why do people hate/key Tesla's?

Anonymous
I have never keyed a car but I joke about it, lol. I associate them with tech bros who have too much money and think all advances in technology are automatically good and anyway inevitable ("evolution"). Like my coworker who claims that "technology will lead us into the promised land," and offers as supporting evidence that no one gets infectious diseases anymore (!!). The kind of guy who thinks the existence of companies like Tesla is itself a societal good, because the technology is "awesome," regardless of what the technology is for or how the workers producing it are treated; thinks space tourism is going to substantially transform society for the better; believes algorithms are "objective"; drinks meal replacement shakes because he's transcended real food; etc.

LOL. I’m a middle-aged, non-techie mom and I drive a Model X. I couldn’t be more opposite of your description!

This is one of the reasons I've never actually done it! besides being, honestly, a goody-two-shoes at heart. Like if Michael Bolton from Office Space were a girl.
