For those “big ticket” items you mentioned, yes. You keep all of the funds and those brands will be sought after. For clothes, you may sell more at a pop up/one time seasonal consignment sale (Just Between Friends aka “JBF” is one franchise or TotSwap as mentioned previously) but they are mostly over for the Fall season and also tagging items, hanging them, dropping off etc. is a good bit of work. You take home 60-70% of the sale price, though. Other options are local children’s consignment stores which you probably don’t get as much of the funds from (vs. the pop up tag sales) but do all the work for you. 529 Kids Consign has several locations and Lemon Lane in Falls Church is great. Also Bellies and Babies in Del Ray/Alexandria. |
What brand clothes? Certain brands are best to sell in FB groups dedicated to just them. I’m in a few Hanna/Boden groups and Janie and Jack groups and the resale is amazing. I end up breaking even or paying $5-$6 an item for things that look better and hold up longer than Old Navy. (Ex: I bought my daughter a $90 100% silk Christmas dress in like new condition for $20 because I snagged it in the summer and if I hold on to it until next October/early November I can probably resell for $25ish. And worst case scenario and my kid destroys it at Christmas it only cost me $20 and it looks a lot nicer than a $20 polyester dress from Target.) |
Pp here. Not everyone is rich on here. My kids wore clothes very lightly and I was a pro at stains. Why is it buy and sell used clothes? I actually don’t need to post on Facebook marketplace anymore. I take a pic every season and send it to a few people who buy from me and they buy it all. Clearly everyone is happy. |
Consigning is such a ripoff. No way. |
Not OP but what is the strategy for selling clothes on Facebook? I’ve listed some but I didn’t get any buyers! |
Sounds frugal and smart to me! Jealous much? |
List a big lot "12mo winter girl lot" And then have prices on individual items $1-2. Fancy brands like Hanna Andersen or Lilly Pulitzer will get more (but you'd get more for those selling on buy/sell groups). Another thing- you can't sell summer clothes now. Who would buy them? Sell summer clothes in April or May. |
+1. Nobody wants summer clothes now, because you're really just guessing what size your baby or toddler will be by April or May. Right now people are looking for winter items--coats, long pants, etc. |
I think FB marketplace is supplanting CL. I would advertise on FB first, but if you don't get bites then CL. |
PSA: All caps translates to yelling in online forums. |
How much do winter coats and clothing sets go for? I have some hoodies, fleece and wool jackets, puffed jackets, fleece pjs toddler sizes that I want to get rid of. |
Coats $10, fleeces $5 (assuming they are not old navy/target), pj’s $2, other clothing $2-3 per item. |
+2 - especially when you consider that most of the stuff is made in China. Why support the Communists any more than we need to? Recycle as often as possible. |
Thanks. How much for jeans? |
Unless there is something really fancy about them, $3. |
