Do any new cars have front bench seats so 3 can sit upfront? Or that extra seat in the trunk?

Wow. I'm surprised they were still being built has late as 2011. I thought they went away by the end of the 80s.

I wouldn't want my child in that. If you got rear ended hard, kids could get very injured. If you need 6 seats, get an SUV or van.

It's as safe as any 3rd row seat. Rear-facing 5-point is the safest you can be for most accidents.

3rd rows aren't very safe if there is little truck space but at least if you regular RF you have the seat back for protection. Here, if someone hits you from behind, they don't have any protection.

The 2020 Chevy Suburban can seat nine. Has option three in front.

Ha, this is bringing back memories of my parents' early 90s Ford Taurus station wagon, which had both the "way back" rear facing seats, and the bench seat with a middle front seat. I always got put in the front one because as the most petite person in my family, I was pretty much the only one who could fit. Sometimes my dad would let me steer from there, which was thrilling as an elementary schooler. I also couldn't stand the backwards facing seats for more than a few minutes, made me nauseated.

Me too! We had a wood paneled navy wagon with a big bench seat. I think the middle seat had only a lap belt.
