I just realized there's an entire soccer forum, and boy does it seem filled with drama.

My kid doesn't play soccer or an instrument (I'm sure he is doomed to a life of mediocrity) but I don't see why you can't play soccer for life. I've played my sport for life, and the park by my house is filled every evening and weekend with grown ups playing soccer. Its fitness! Its fun! Why not?

Yup, just go over to the General Parenting forum for such riveting discussions on:

Hanna Andersson changed their return policy
Husband teasing young child

doctor appt

and even the dreaded:
Soccer snacks- stupid vent edition.

Many people do play soccer for life. There is a hysterically intense game many weekends among a bunch of 50-70 year old dudes near where I live in Bethesda. I'm not sure what league it is, but they have a referee and everything. You'll see multiple generations of people playing soccer in parks and at family BBQs in many areas of the country. Whether any of these people are similar to the typical posters on the DCUM soccer forum I cannot say.

The Private/Independent Schools forum also generates at lease a handful of amazing things each week as well.

My two World Bank lawyer friends still play soccer... on adult amateur teams on the weekend. You need to get out more, PP.

I think it's the Dad version of the various schools forums. All the vitriol, none of the nuance.

This is hysterical and describes the lacrosse forums as well. I wonder what the male/female poster ratio is here? It is definitely not representative of DCUM as a whole.

What? I mean why getting out of bed?

I played soccer growing up and because of it I developed a great depth of character, ability to work well with a team, leadership skills, healthy body image and that's just the beginning. I met people from all over the world and developed a taste for travel. I mean, WTF, PP. Are you that dense? Do you only do things which will make you rich or win you an olympic gold medal?

Perhaps you should re-examine the first statement, in light of the second.

+1

playing youth sports is widely regarded to be an absolute net positive for kids in terms of physical fitness, teamwork, dedication, etc. If you want your kid to play an instrument, great - I'll take the strength of character of a sports team over playing a cello alone in a room any day (not that kids can't do both).

No way. Soccer moms can be real monsters.

I guess you have never ventured into the private school forum? LOL it’s all the same.

Why does it need to lead you anywhere?
At minimum, its a fun (assuming your not forcing your kid to play) activity that provides exercise, competition, and teaches teamwork.
