No Homework Policy in Elementary

Same for my second grader. But it is one page of math problems and one page of explanation of how to do it (which they have already gone over in school but for reference for the child and/or parent). She was spending more time on homework last year in first grade, though I don't think they started until October in first. Neither of our elementary schools has a no homework policy, but it has mostly been pretty short activities in math and/or spelling, plus reading of their choice.

Outside of special projects (book reports, mostly), the only homework I had in elementary school was to read a little each night and practice my spelling words before the weekly spelling test — and even that didn’t involve writing the words. I had no problem starting nightly homework in sixth grade. In fact, it seemed like a rite of passage that made me feel like a “real” middle schooler. The kids will be fine.
