Penn State at 78 beats both UMCP and UVA. Their admission standards are very low. These scores don't tell you as much about the undergraduate quality of the university. |
1) True, there's no other one country....yet. China will rival the US sooner than you think. 2) Research is mostly relevant at the grad level. For undergrad, univs abroad offer more value at lower costs and with fewer dumb distractions. 3) Notice that there are already 8 foreign univs there ![]() |
And that may not be a bad thing. |
Admissions scores are an input. They don't really tell us anything about the quality of the university, itself. Even with lower student standardized tests, the professors could be great, the courses could be terrifically informative and interesting, the school could have oodles of resources, and the research could be top notch. I wouldn't discount cohort as being completely unimportant but it is just one of several indicators of quality. |
Actually I think it would be good for everyone. May even help contain crazy admin bureaucracies and tuition fees. |
Quick check shows the male to female ratio seems to be off. |
No German or Dutch schools? |
That's primariliy because the Chinese Technical Espionage curriculum and program wildly surpasses ours. |
USNWR is undergrad only. Times may be overall. |
Well, it seems to overstate UK universities (Oxbridge) in my view. |
There are multiple world university rankings now, BTW.
At an undergraduate or even graduate level, the comparison doesn't really make sense for many people. If you are working to get qualified in a field in a country, you'll want to go to an institution that will help you achieve that qualification. UK accounting differs from US accounting. You get your law degree as your first degree in the UK and as a graduate degree in the US. |
Chicago has lost its bashing attraction vis a vis Michigan and Notre Dame. |
UVA's achilles heel has been and continues to be quantity and quality of research and publications in STEM (minus medicine). |
Yes in the top 50. Also some Indian schools there, which is an even more obvious gap. |
True, but Swiss or German or Indian or Chinese engineering or computer science or math is probably equal to us if not better. |
