I doubt that's going to happen. The UK maintains sovereign control over its territories, with military force if necessary. |
They are also predicting widespread prescription drug shortages. And all they trucks and ships and cargo planes that now come from the EU and bypass customs with have to stop, and be searched and processed. There is no plan in place to do this and no infrastructure. So rather than just crossing border, they expect trucks, ships and planes to sit in line for days waiting their turn. Supplies, like medication and food won’t get into Britain without a huge delay, and huge expense while they pay people to sit and wait. Any parts of the supply chains for British goods from the EU will become expensive and getting the, will not be reliable. And the EU can’t let Britain out with a decent deal. If they do, Germany will next in line, and demand the same deal. And the EU will collapse. This is Putin’s wet dream. And I really wish Trumptwats would quit destroying things it took decades of hard work to build and saying it will all work out or something great will magically appear to fill the void. That’s not the way it works. |
Scotland already nearly voted to leave the UK. If a no-deal Brexit happens, another referendum to leave is inevitable, and would likely pass. |
Yup. Same as Lincoln did over here. |
Scotland can vote to become a part of Russia if they want to, doesn't mean it's going to happen. |
So to your eye, Scotland wanting to break from UK so that Scotland can join EU = South wanting to break from North to continue slavery? |
DP here. The "why" doesn't matter here, just that a nation is going to use military force to enforce its territorial rights. |
Exactly. |
No-Deal Brexit is like every other populist nationalist crusade.
Demagogues know how to rile people up about foreigners and globalists, but they have no clue how to govern if they succeed. |
Um, if Scotland gets another independence vote it will be with the permission of the UK Govt. Scotland is not like Wales or N.Ireland. it is technically another country with its own Queen (who happens to be the same as the Queen of England). |
You are living in a fantasy world. It was difficult enough to get Northerners to fight Southerners over the South's immoral continuation of slavery. You really think English will have the stomach to follow pro-Brexiters into actual battle against Scotsman? The English can barely find a majority pro-Brexit within non-Scots borders. It's an easy enough thing to cast a pro-Brexit ballot-- an entirely different thing altogether to send your children into a war against Scotland because Scotland wants to stay in the EU. Or do you find wanting to stay in EU as morally repugnant as continuation of slavery? |
Victors write History. |
England is not going to war with Scotland to prevent the results of a hypothetical independence referendum from being upheld. That's one of the stupidest things I've read today. |
Well, in fairness, it wasn't the "South" that wanted to break from the North. Only the white, male landowners were consulted. |
Well. In fairness, it wssn't the "North" that wanted to invade the South. Only the white, male landowners were consulted. |
