The drinking culture can be significantly different at different schools. My children grew up in Sewanee and attended college elsewhere and reported that the drinking cultures on their campuses were significantly milder than Sewanee's.

Funny, mine had the opposite impression.

As opposed to what? A Leftist, PC, gay/trans loving NESCAC?

You seem to be squarely in the Sewanee demographic. Useful illustration of the types the school attracts.

I have first hand experience of the Sewanee drinking culture. It is absolutely NOTHING compared to a big state university. I cannot emphasize this enough. The kids might like to have fun but it is so scaled back.

Unbelievably gorgeous campus, lots of old money types. Definitely need to be the kind of kid interested in hiking etc. I'd go there for a very solid liberal arts education.

FWIW, my gay son went to Sewanee and enjoyed his time there. A lot. He majored in government and now works for Elizabeth Warren.

Poor kid must not be very wise. Hopefully he doesn’t work for her campaign. Poor Liz got rebuked by John Delaney of all people. She has less chance at the presidency than mickey mouse

I can't imagine any reputable LAC or university has a "gay people" problem these days.

I've met out and proud gay alums of schools some of you would probably write off as too southern or conservative, such as Davidson.

It's probably a knee-jerk reaction to "southern and expensive" rather than any particular merit.

Mickey Mouse would be an enormous improvement over the orange dunce.

We visited as well and got the impression that the (very small) town and campus itself were on the more liberal side. Probably not unlike other highly educated pockets of the south.

Typical of DCUMers to associate Leftism with being highly educated. What about the highly educated scholars at Hillsdale and Thomas Aquinas?

For example, the course selection process where the student makes a list of 12 courses and then the school picks 4 courses from that 12 as your semester schedule.

"Academic Guides will build you a balanced schedule of four classes from the twelve you select. They will do so based on the preferences and interests you express on your Course Selection checklist item, and will also keep information in mind from your academic inventory, student life requests, athletics and more."

That would drive my kids crazy, but it's worked well for one kid I know who goes there, who's a little on the immature side.

I like hand-holding! Sewanee just bumped up on my list!
