recommend fav spots to stay in Maine

We’re in MDI right now for vacation. Tons of stuff to do in Acadia. Island Explorer shuttle bus takes you to all of the major trails. We rent a house on the “quiet side” of the island, less than a 10 min drive to Southwest Harbor. Great hikes (coastal as well as mountain) on this side of the island. Bar Harbor is crowded, but when we go, it’s a scenic 25 or so min drive away.

Not OP, but any suggestions on lake up there? Looking to do some swimming & kayaking on a quiet lake. Ideally, near a little town with a market.

Fav place is New England Outdoor Center. It's outside of Millinocket, ME and has postcard views of Mount Katahdin. It's a quiet vacation, but can't be beat. Hiking, mountain biking, and rafting are all close by. Also, the NEOC sits on a beautiful lake. The center has kayaks and canoes, and has small piers you can jump off of into the clean waters. If you're not into recreation, it's a nice place to read a book, and kick back with a drink and enjoy the sunsets.

Looking to rent a furnished vacation house in Santa Barbara for three months next winter. Does anyone have any suggestions of any surrounding areas. Would like to be able to walk to town, restaurants, not too far walk or drive rom beach Maybe someone knows a realtor or rental company I could contact rather than vVRBO or air B and B. Thank you.

Only if you are planning on driving up to Maine, we generally fly up.

Loved diamond cove off Portland. No grocery but whole food delivers. There’s an old school arcade, pool, playground, old forts, beach...nice people

We always loved the ogunquit area but this year went farther north to the Camden/Rockport/Rockland area. Specifically we were in Tenants Harbor. Loved it! Not nearly as crowded, but great food in those towns I mentioned. 2 hours from Portland, 2 hours from Acadia.

Moosehead Lake. Rangeley Lake. Sebago Lake. Kezar lake. Rockland/Rockport/Camden. Lamoine or the quiet side of MDI. You really can’t go wrong in Maine.

Me again. Forgot any of the Penobscot Bay islands.

It depends what you want. Tons of people from points well south of Maine return every year. Most everywhere in Maine is nice, but Acadia is like nowhere else in the eastern US. There’s tons to do.

I mean the scenery is like nowhere else. It's a unique landscape. Obviously you can do all these things in other places.

New poster. Acadia is one of the top 10 most visited national parks, right behind Zion, Grand Canyon, Yosemite.
