Tell me why a C section’s better

No risk of bad tears! For my mom it’s was baby 3 that ripped the whole way through to the back, so it’s always a risk with a vaginal delivery.

Hi OP,
I had to have a C with my second because he was stubbornly breech. I was upset about it. But here’s what I liked:

It is fast. From checking in to seeing the baby was, like, 2.5 hours. Of course emergencies come first but for me, it was quick.

I like being able to pee and poop without pain. No burning vagina! Hooray!

I could sit! No sore vagina! Hooray!

No bleeding! They cleaned me out after the C so I really didn’t bleed after.

I won’t get into the cons. It’ll be OK!

You don't have to deal with labor pain and you get to plan ahead. Please realize not all babies make it to the scheduled c section dates. Mine did not. Also my son was breech and his head was definitely not round. He wore a helmet shortly after delivery it was so elongated.

No bleeding! I wore pads for six weeks after my first and that led to some significant chafing. With the c I healed fast—up and around in a few days. So much easier. No burning when you pee no raw skin.

I had two c's and two very easy recoveries. One HUGE bonus -- no tearing or other vaginal/pelvic floor issues. Another bonus - I wasn't exhausted from hours of labor. Another bonus - no surprises, I had a "go bag", but it was nice being able to wrap up work, take a day off to relax, then drive to the hospital the next morning knowing baby would be there in a few hours.

I don’t know about you OP but this feedback has been enough to terrify me about my decision to try a VBAC this time. I’m now hoping this baby is breech or my blood pressure goes up again so I can just have another c section without guilt.

My first was an emergency c and my kid was in the NICU so I can’t speak to a lot of the other perks mentioned here but I do agree that highlights included:
-I basically stopped bleeding by the time I left the hospital. Just wore panty liners for about a week but it was super minimal.
-Felt SO grateful every time I used the bathroom that there was no damage or soreness down there. Yes, I had to be very careful sitting down on the toilet with my incision but once I got there I was just so glad that I wasn’t struggling to wipe or cringing when I peed.

STFU, this was thoroughly debunked already. Signed, a vaginal birth mom whose kid had both food allergies and asthma

+2 same with my experience didn't prevent either of those things

It’s so civilized! Show up and have a baby two hours later!

Given ypur complications I would say the positive is a live baby. No one asks you two years or less how baby got here.

This. Presumably you don’t have a choice OP. So just prepare for the post C section aftermath and stop thinking about it. It’s not like you’re choosing to have breast implants.

You don’t have to have a VBAC. It’s your body, you have to life with the consequences, and your choice.

You don't need medical complications to have a CS. I am having a scheduled elective C with my first child this week. OB didn't bat an eyelash when I requested it. Estimated time in OR is 45 min, and bam, you have your baby. No labor pains, to tearing, no stalled labor, no pelvic floor damage, incontinence or organ prolapse. You may get lucky and do a vaginal delivery without any problems, but I am over forty and I guess just not that elastic, so I am taking an easy way out and happy about it, no guilt at all.

You don't need a reason for a c section, or any guilt. I had a "maternal choice" c section for my first (only) because labor sounds like a nightmare, and I was 34 with a well positioned baby. Delivery went great and no my kid doesn't have asthma or allergies. I don't understand VBAC people at all -- it's risky and you already have stitches in your uterus so I don't see why you want them in your vulva too. If you were into VBAC I wouldn't opine but since you said you don't want one ... don't have one!

I am the PP who said it’s your body and you should do what you want. I’m currently contemplating the cost of pelvic reconstructive surgery for my vagina/bladder/rectum from injuries sustained from vaginal birth. These surgeries have a high fail rate with a lot of complications (also major surgery like the c section I was trying to avoid) and the best practice in the US doesn’t take insurance so it will cost me about 20K or so with no guarantees it will fix all my pelvic problems, which I will not go into because you said you are already scared. What I will say is that I wish to god I had known about prolapse or all these troubles that I could have potentially minimized or avoided with a scheduled c section—especially since I was a runner (can’t do that anymore). I had no idea of all the risks in my favor for the injury (family history, old age, big baby, long labor) but I had pretty much all of them. Your body, your choice.

It really makes no difference. I did not plan a C-section with my first but ended up having an emergency one. Had elective one with my second to avoid the same situation. They are now eight and five and I haven’t thought about it since. I don’t pee when I jump. Maybe that’s a benefit? Honestly it makes no difference at all. Just enjoy your healthy baby.
