| What is summer geometry? Where do you take these classes? |
|
| Could you help out a friend that can't find it? Classes that FCPS will allow for credit as part of a 7th or 8th grade transcript? |

Or you could talk to your child's teacher who can provide you with all the necessary information. |
| I can tell you they definately dont encourage it. My son was thinking about taking summer Geometry and Chantilly HS very strongly discouraged it. For some reason, they dont want the kids to reach their full potential. It's not a bad thing if he takes it Freshman year. He is still on an advanced math track. |
I don't think it's that they don't want kids to reach their full potential, it's just that the compressed schedule isn't always the best for learning. They look at your kid, their history and give advice. Or they generally dissuade from it and figure the kids that really want it will still go for it. |
| Well, I dont think discouraging it is a good idea. |
We’ll see you half way into the summer when you are asking how to have your kids B+ or A- in Geometry expunged because they have to have an A for their TJ application. |
| You realize that geometry is on the SAT right. Scrunching it into a 5 week timeframe just makes it harder for them later, because they don’t learn everything and they don’t have any depth. |
|
My son took summer geometry last year. I disagree that you won't learn everything there. It depends on the kids.
BTW, you dont' need to be all As to get in TJ. Last time I checked, about 50% are all As in 7th and 8th grade, and 50% have other grades. Good luck! |
