huh? Do you even know the set up at Deal? Who would pay for the tables? Where would they be stored when not in use for lunch? Who would put the tables out there daily? Who would take them down daily? Who would monitor them during lunch? (right now lunch is monitored by the assistant principals). Are you volunteering to be on lunch duty daily for the year? Maybe think through the logistics for JUST A MINUTE before you post your "easy" solution. |
Where is “outside?” Outside the cafeteria but inside? Every inch of indoor space is used in that school. Outside as in outdoors? In January? Have you been to Deal at lunch? Your post says no. |
You are clearly a moron. Perhaps your child can be put at a lunch table outside in snow, rain and sleet. Why don't you ask Deal? I'm sure they can reserve a special space for your kid.

| Maybe your kids are a bunch of wussies, I’m not surprised in these days of bubble wrap kids. My school had picnic tables outside where we ate on many days in 40 degree weather. On rain/snow days we adjusted and ate in next period classrooms or gym in addition to the cafeteria. There are other middle schools in the area that have 1500 kids and you don’t hear anything about kids having to stand up to eat so obviously they’re doing something wrong. Don’t be offended. I guess the good thing about this year is that there are only 470 rising 6th graders so maybe there won’t be many standing kids for their lunch. |
Name calling. Ahh the days of Trump presidency have rubbed off on average DCUMer. |
Next period classrooms? There are classes in the classrooms. There is no space in the gym because three classes are having PE in the gym. Have you ever been to Deal? Have you ever been to Deal at lunch? No, I didn’t think so. |
Are those other schools with 1500 kids built for 1000 kids? Or are the build for the number of kids they have? |
Yes. Not in city but definitely in Arlington and parts of MoCo. And there are charters that are equally crammed it (300 where there should be 150-200). |
My child plays sports - BUT my specific question was what CLUB have they been told is full? And I thought every child who wanted to participate in theater had some type of role - clearly there are only so many lead roles - but no child was fully turned away from theater (note - I do not define theater as a club - but I am open to discussion) |
| I have a rising Deal student and how can all this be? Long lines at lunch? Do the kids have enough time to eat? Are parents calling downtown for answers? |
And those schools have a student population that is 30% OOB while at the same time have neighboring middle schools that are only at 50% capacity. Didn’t think so. Move on. |
No, not at all. Plenty of kids were not given any role. I believe they are always welcome to join the stage crew. But no, they don't all get roles. |
What? It's an old building. Where do you expect Deal to absorb an extra 500 kids for lunch? Do you think Deal is just leaving vast common spaces open and never thought to use them? "Oh my gosh! We have this large empty gym we've never used! And this huge common room!" "Why did we never use this space over the past 100 years?" "well, golly gee! our problems are solved!. We'll just stick the extra 500 kids in here!" |
What does that have to do with statement? Where does it say Deal is only made for 1000 students? |
Yes I have. There are some empty 6th grade classrooms during 6th grade lunch. That’s a fact. Same with 7th and 8th. You can continue to be dramatic about things or you can be part of a solution. |
