We obviously didn't hate it when we moved here, but we sure do now (20 years later). The negativity is more persistent now because it is getting worse every day! Can't wait to get out of here in a couple of more years...

Why can’t you move now?

Retiring in two years.

Please consider early retirement. Your persistent negativity is horrible for the large majority of us who like it here.

I’m actually from here. Please tell the class when Republicans were in charge of Montgomery County.

I know there used to be Republicans on the County Council. That’s not what I asked, but can you name the last time there was more than one?

I also know that Connie Morella represented the county in Congress. That’s also not what I asked.

Why are these random thoughts worthy of being threads?

I started this one but not the other one about which schools declined etc.

As someone who got royally burned by choosing to buy in Montgomery County over NOVA years ago and has a former neighbor who is CRYING about how much money she just lost when she went to sell her home, I would love to know what we all missed years ago choosing MOCO and how to avoid a similar mistake in the future. This is the only time in my life that I have lost money on real estate. Trust me, most buyers considering MOCO are asking themselves this question so its relevant.

You may not like to see anything negative about MOCO but there are a lot of HUGE problems from the county council to the schools to the property values. If no one is interested, then the thread or threads will die but your constant MOCO PR policing isn't appropriate IMO for a discussion board. This isn't Bethesda Magazine.

Hmm, my neighborhood in, gasp, Silver Spring has seen prices go up and up over the past few years!

NP. Might depend on what part of Silver Spring. My parents' 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom house in Wheaton has stagnated for years, and now it's actually dropped from last year. It's the only area in Montgomery County where you can get that size house for under $500k. And to think....when I grew up there, it was an upper-middle class neighborhood. Golf and tennis at the nearby country club, and riding lessons at the stables less than a mile away. Now the school is a 3, and multiple families are crammed into a SFH.

Let's stop pretending that illegal immigration is a plus. It's a big negative to the neighborhoods in which they settle.

(And for the snobby doubters out there: yes, parts of Wheaton were upper-middle class.)

All of those things can still be done in Wheaton. Stop being afraid of brown people.

Dp I don't see how my neighbor's negative feelings would affect my feelings. You need to get tougher skin. If you are happy how is someone else's opinion bringing you down?
