Your child is over the recommended age and seems fine. While I agree it is over kill for bites and a prescription not given to him by a doctor, I would just let MIL know you do not want her to use it on him again. I would not give it much worry/thought. |
Be careful about calling poison control. My Brother called them when my Niece swallowed a small magnet. The person told them to take Niece to the ER immediately and then called back 30 minutes later. When they had not brought my Niece to the ER, they called their Pediatrician before going to the ER and the Ped told them what to look for and said she would most likely be fine, the poison control person called Child Protective Services. CPS arrived at 2 in the morning and insisted on talking to Brother and SIL and Niece. Then CPS conducted follow up visits. So call poison control when it is something really serious that you think you might have to do something before you can get to an ER but be careful about calling for things that are less then death inducing because poison control has strict guidelines that they follow and that could lead to a visit from CPS. Yes, it is one data point but don't call poison control for things that you can call your Pediatrician for. |
It sounds like it is just a prescription hydrocortisone cream, no? Slightly stronger than what anyone can buy OTC.
Keep in mind, the disclaimer of "don't let kids under age 2 use this product" is more of a CYA for the company. There haven't been studies/company doesn't have info on the (long term) effect on babies/under age 2 so they slap that "not to use on young kids" label on it. |
no harm done.
she sounds like my mother-in-law. my sympathy.... |
Why didn't you talk to your sister before you went off the deep end? Also, why don't you use mosquito repellent? You sound as bad as your MIL! |
my sister was busy and wasn't responding to my calls. i will check for mosquito repellent - we are not at our home and i didn't it this would be an issue. |
Your MIL did no damage. |
yes, i get it, but it was a really stupid idea and i blame myself as much as her for not paying attention to what she was doing. i saw her putting it on the baby but i thought it was a nivea type product, not her own prescription medicine. ugh. so reckless. but no point in majorly rocking the boat now as it can't be undone. |
my son was prescribed a steroid cream several times when he was a baby to treat his eczema so it's probably just fine. |
Thought this was gonna be about something way juicier than steroid cream..... sigh. |
Your mother-in-law has learned her lesson. The next time she usurps your authority, she'll make sure you don't find out about it. |
You are obviously a first time mom.
My MIL annoys me on so many levels but her treating a bug bite probably would not set me off. DH and my BIL are both doctors. They can deal with her. |
+1 my kid has had 4 different steroid creams for various issues. |
Your topic is so dramatic. |
This is some serious fear mongering. |
