Nanny used bleach to wash child's clothes

OP here. Yes, I asked her why she washed my kid's clothes. She said she was just trying to help out. And my "poor child" had plenty of other weather appropriate clothes to wear. I think she's just out of it sometimes. She's left milk/perishable food out for hours because she "forgot" to put it away so of course we had to throw it away. She's only been with us for a few months so we're talking to the agency now about finding someone else at this point. Ughhhhhhhhhhhh.

OP some nannies are just generic workers. It can be just a no skills job for some people.

Oh man. That’s bad. I would keep the nanny if she acted mortified and apologized and told me how she would make sure this never happens again. But no apology? Yeah, she’s out.

You found her through an agency!?! I know one nanny who worked through the same agency as me and I seriously couldn’t believe it, as the agency seemed thorough in their vetting of me. Anyway, common sense is part of the job, as is children’s laundry, food prep, etc. I’d move on sooner than later.

I know people often ask the nanny to do it, but in wealthy households, that is done by a housekeeper or maid, not a child care worker.

Someone used to only having color-safe bleach.

My niece did this when visiting us a few summers ago. SIL uses color-safe bleach in every load and my niece didn’t realize there was a difference.

If the bleach is diluted and you have a top loader, you can add it to the washer once the tub has filled and it will be fine. I don't know if or how that would work in a front loader or a machine that locks. I haven't had any reason to do this in the past several years, but I know it can be safely done. You just have to know how to do it.

Exactly. I love how the ppl of DCUM think it’s a nanny’s job to do laundry while paying them $16/hr.

This is the reason that I never take on laundry duties.

I am afraid of ruining clothes or breaking a machine.

People on here expect nannies to wash the child’s clothing, but I never have.

She was a bad nanny. Just one example. I didn’t ask her to launder DHs clothes. She took a lot of things on that she thought she should do but she was bad at all of them. And she stole things. Just bad all around. She was a sort of nightmare nanny really.
