That would have a lot of other impacts I don’t think you’re thinking about.

So... let's go further and undo some more wars?

Not saying wars are good, but you’re not thinking of the fact that there would be no UN, EU, or NATO without WWII.

You might as well go back to the beginning of humanity and eradicate humanity’s propensity to be violent. Taking out one war like WWII does nothing and undoes institutions that have done a lot of good.

Yes, this: eradicate humanity’s propensity to be violent, would be a good cause. However that would not fix everything. The ability of a human to do evil things is greater problem because one can do very evil things without being violent.

As to the WW2, I would think that creation of ubernational organizations as above could be done without the atrocities of the WW2.
Not one human being is able to feel and encompass the loss of life that took place during the WW2 on all sides. Imagine that many million times this to be you, your family.. your parents, your siblings, your children... think about the Holocaust. The pain. You give me UN, EU and NATO?
I think not-o.

Those organizations would not have existed without that war. No question. And they have prevented countless losses of life.

My point is simply that you can’t just say “oh yeah we’ll get rid of this war” and expect things would be unequivocally better. It’s not that simple.

This would require long academic discussion. Short answer is... if not the UN, EU and NATO then there would be something else.
However the people who lost their lives had only one life to live. Just like you DP.

I actually don’t at all believe anything short of a world war would have provided the impetus to create those institutions.

You can not know for sure because when something happens, then something else doesn't. Every event has consequences. Since you can not compare what would truly happen in both cases because you would need to run them in two parallel universes then any sure statement is
simply a pure speculation. There are infinite possibilities to what could have happened. We will never know. There would be something else.
What if it were better? Just a thought. Plus again, undoing the tragedy. You never know about the lives saved, but you know about the lives lost.
You had a WHOLE WORLD on fire.

Well then let me ask you this question, a bonus question - who and where would you like to be exactly during the years of WW2?
How much would you worry then about the very honorable organizations you mentioned? Please be specific. Who would you like to be?..
Where...? Please think hard. Pick a country, pick a city, pick a place, pick a time.. somehow I think I see you thinking..
safe place.. far from any chance of being exterminated... Yes? No?
If yes, then why? Why don't you put yourself in the forth front if the cause is worthy, if not.. very noble thing to do to make such a personal sacrifice to prove your point.

The good deed I would do would be to be kind to this boy, Stephen. He killed himself in maybe 8th grade. I’m in my 50s now, but his death was the first time I realized other people were perhaps struggling, too. Not that it was in my power to make him want to live, but I could have been deliberately kind. That would be my good deed.

Hug PP. Big hug. Some people may be gone but they left a mark in our hearts and live in our memory.

Because God often hops the DCUM and his fav forum is Religion forum, who knows he might see your post and make it happen retrospectively? God you know.. can do anything. He also seems to have great sense of humor. Did you see some animals? Take the octopus.. Head and eight hands! Or kittens.. all fluff and puff and then.. knives in the fingers!

I'd go back as Pontius Pilate and not have Jesus crucified. That would really Change the progression of Christianity.

There wouldn't be Christianity, because it is based on his resurrection, not so much on his wisdom when alive, because there were others in antiquity with the same common sense/benevolent messages, e.g., Buddha.

Wow. Why? He left a 5 year old boy. You wouldn’t want his son to have his father back?

You get this one deed and you don't save everyone? Mother Theresa? Love how you twisted this to me being a bad person for not wanting to save John Freaking Lennon. Wow.
