I was able to use the bottom one in MD for a Real ID. I think a lot of it depends on the person you get, my sister was able to use the top version in MD. |
Why should I get a passport? It's $140 which I cannot afford, and I have no need for one. I just want to renew my driver's license in the state of MD so I can drive here and use it as my ID should I need to show ID. |
DMV employees aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. They should be asking "Why does his look fancy? So I don't ask questions?" As part of this Real ID fiasco, I can use my W2 to prove my SSN. That's just ludicrous because I have to print my own W2 since the company doesn't mail it to me. |
I have the same Certificate of Birth Registration and have used it for 76 years for EVERYTHING including Social Security - it states it is evidence pf parentage, etc and California DMV will NOT accept it. |
I am having the same problem using the top copy (which I have used my entire life) to get an Enhanced Drivers License in Michigan and they tell me I cannot use it and have to get a Certificate of Live Birth from the DOH at Albany. I'm really worried that I will get the same exact thing. |
I had this issue as a Marylander. The doc I believed was my birth certificate was not one and I had even used it to go to Canada ( back when you could do that). The only reason I figured out it was not the real thing was that Real ID Maryland had a checklist on their website. |
I was born in Corning, NY and when I was there over the summer I got two copies of the certified transcript of birth like the one shown above. They told me they don't make copies of birth certificates anymore. I live in DC and certainly hope this will work when it's time to get a real ID. I'm gonna get a passport too for back up. Why is it such a PITA to get one of these damn real IDs? It's easier to get a passport for pete's sake! |
In your shoes, my parents got passport cards. $65 including execution fee. |
My "birth certificate" looks the same as what you posted. I had no idea that it wasn't technically a birth certificate. I have a passport, so I don't remember the last time I used it, but no one has ever pointed out that it wasn't real. |
Two weird states. Hard pass on both. |
Your writing skills are atrocious. |
Because it is real. You can only get copies, or transcriptions, of the original record. It just doesn't look fancy enough to make a DMV employee happy. |
The first one is a keepsake, the second one is the real document. How do I know? I verify proof of age for a soccer league. Any parent that submits the first we have to reject. It's not a legal document. |
DP. Interesting. Dept of State takes it as legal for passport purposes. I've run into issues with it in the past, including trying to get back from the Bahamas when I was in college (pre-passport requirements) and then again when DH and I went as young marrieds. We both got passports afterwards to stop the insanity. |
You apparently work at DMV as well. That document appears to be a signed government document complete with seal. Not clear how to make it more authentic. It provides the exact same information that a "birth certificate" does. You can't get your original birth certificate. Only copies that certify that there is an original on file somewhere. |
