I disagree, voting, drinking, cigarettes, marijuana, full licenses, military service [unless in times of war] should be 21.

- but federal law allows enlistment at age 18 (age 17 with parental consent in some branches).

If you are old enough to die for your country, shouldn’t members of the military be allowed to choose to smoke & drink, be allowed to vote, etc.??

Yes. 18 for everything. The time young adults drink the MOST is when they are 18 to 22. It is part of their liberation period. They are doing it anyhow, so let’s stop wasting cop’s time and money trying to stop them. Also - on a side note, the “draft” is a very anti-American (i.e. anti-freedom / involuntary servitude) institution. You should WANT to fight for your country when there is a true threat and need. Despite what was / is convenient for the leaders of government and what the Supreme Court ruled a long time ago based on “pay” the practice goes against the basic tenets of the constitution. It is also unnecessary. In times of true need, the standing military and volunteers would suffice. A conscription makes it so people don’t have to volunteer and casues psychological resentment with many of those being conscripted. One just needs to look at the Vietnam War to see this effect. It is not only unconstitutional, it is simply dumb.

Another alternative would be voluntary service for everyone. Even if just for a year or so. Much like other European countries that are so greatly admired.
