I had a friend who is a few years older who had sudden RAGES about things. It was really shocking because she is generally a very even-keeled person.
Fast forward three years and it seems to be gone. But it was very real. |

I’m 49 and periods are still happening like clockwork every month, but I do find that I’m more moody. I’m not sure if it’s hormonal or situational, since perimenopause often coincides with stressful parenting/elder care stages. It’s hard to tell what’s what.
I think this is the age when women just get tired of putting up with everyone else’s crap. The blinders of youth come off and women begin to see things for how they really are. |

I cannot say YES loudly enough. I feel like a shell of my
Former self. |
| Yes. Same. It’s awful. |
| Yes. Huge. HRT helps. |
+1 Agree. It's a hard time of life. |
| Combine this with having a bitchy teenager and my life is absolute crap. |
| Can anyone chime in on what happens as menopause nears? Does it get better? Do hormones stabilize? |
It's gotten worse for me in my 50s and post menopausal. I'm irritable, depressed, low energy; just got diagnosed with ADHD. Took til now to figure that out. Everything is exponentially worse. Just started ADHD meds and also have an appt w an MD and will strongly consider HRT. Not so bothered by hot flashes as I am with my mood swings and lack of motivation. |
| Yes, I'm 45 and have a 3 year old...being irritable with a toddler = no bueno. I just an appointment to discuss options. |
| I’m trying to see a psych. Other women have recommended Wellbutrin to me. Zolofot made me gain too much wait. Medical weed didn’t help at all. |
| The posters that say it keeps on going after menopause are really getting me down. I was SO much looking forward to being done with this awful emotional mess, and was thinking that it wouldn't be more than another couple of years, as I am officially in late perimenopause. |
| Zoloft has really helped me, but the weight gain is bad. |
|
I'm noticing this, too, and am starting back on BCP due to endometriosis. Hoping that might help.
Also totally agree about having to deal with kids (tween/teen) and elder care all at once. And also this x 1000 from PP: "I think this is the age when women just get tired of putting up with everyone else’s crap. The blinders of youth come off and women begin to see things for how they really are. " |
| I’m 49 and was becoming more irritable in spite of dietary changes and regular exercise. Seeing an acupuncturist and taking advantage of my workplace resilience program is helping me a lot. |
