Yesterday I saw a whole line of cars making a right over a crosswalk. Meanwhile a mom with a stroller couldn’t finish crossing the street and the crosswalk timer was counting down. Not one car slowed down for her.
People are jerks. |
But she was not hit... so what is she going to write the license plate down for? She was crossing the car stopped, she freaked out, now she is posting about it.
The fact is she was crossing, the car stopped... move on. |
Cars have blind spots.
I try to be careful and go slowly for that reason. I almost ( slowly ) hit someone in a parking lot recently. They were just in the perfect spot to not be seen. Scary stuff. Of course I didn’t yell at them. |
I wasn't relying on others for my safety. I was crossing the street. Should we not cross streets? Should there be no pedestrians in the city? Should I have to worry about being killed just because I'm not in a car? |
If a cop wants to ticket someone, there are enough random and stupid traffic laws where they could do so. You don’t have to be injure a pedestrian to face a penalty for wreckless driving. |
How was there a blind spot when the OP was right in front of the car? It's evident that most of the responses are coming from people who don't walk in the city. Get out of your car for once in your life and you'll get a huge wake up call. |
This is so true. More pedestrians that have been killed would be alive, if they treat it this way. You may legally have the right away, but it won’t matter if you’re dead. Stop and make sure everyone comes to a complete stop, because it just takes one fool to be to texting and plow someone down |
OP stated that the intersection was clear when she started into the crosswalk. |
Yes, pedestrians need to be mindful, too, but I notice drivers try to rush through because they are in a hurry. They will try to quickly get through so they don't have to stop for the pedestrian. This is probably what happened in OP's case. |
Wreckless driving. Ha! |
It's pathetic that most people are defending the driver. Not only her driving, but then yelling at the OP... WTF? |
+1 The driver was way out of line. The problem is that a pedestrian is pretty much at the mercy of an inconsiderate jerk driver behind a 4000 pound machine, so you have to watch out for that kind of driver. |
That doesn’t mean that you weren’t in her blind spot. |
The OP was right in front of the driver. Blind spot my ass. She would literally have to be blind not to see OP. Slow down and get off your phone. |
What is this blind spot people are referring to? If you're in the middle of a crosswalk and someone comes barreling down the street and doesn't see you, their only blind spot is the fact that they were not looking ahead of them.
The way some people are responding here people may as well never use the crosswalk. The Op said she used an abundance of caution. It was clear when she crossed. If someone comes out of nowhere what is a pedestrians supposed to do about that? Drivers need to be much more careful and that is all there is to it. Pedestrians can only be vigilant up to a point before the driver needs to take over |
