We liked the beka easel better than the M and D, but they're probably about the same:
http://www.madisonartshop.com/beka-deluxe-easel.html We bought ours at Child's Play in Rockville. If memory serves, it was about 80 bucks. FWIW, it doesn't fold down, so takes up some room. Very sturdy, though. I recommend getting some paint pots. You can store them in the fridge with the paint still in them and they'll stay usable for a ridiculously long time, that way you don't waste paint: http://www.forsmallhands.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=78_206_419 Also, some good, large handle paintbrushes are essential. http://www.forsmallhands.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=78_206_407 Ninety-nine cents is the going rate for the large, 79 for the medium, both can be purchased at Child's Play. They will tell you that the only paper that will fit a beka easel is the $15 roll you can get at Child's Play, but I found a workable roll for $5.99 at another typical art store with no muss or fuss. YMMV. |

Ours is pricy. But I LOOOOOOVE it.
1. Chalkboard and whiteboard. 2. Adjustable legs 3. All wood, including the paint tray -- in contrast, Melissa and Doug plastic parts looked like they would break. 4. Paper roll on top. Good news: tot is thrilled with it. I got it from Tugooh Toys in Bethesda. It was the only non-Melissa and Doug one they had. Can't remember the brand... |
