Ice Skating First Date

Anonymous
Here's a story: my fmr female coworker who'd never skated before went out with a guy coworker who played hockey growing up and still plays recreationally on a first date and they went ice skating. She put one foot on the ice and promptly slipped and broke her ankle right there before the second foot even touched the ice. Was in a cast and crane for like two months. The guy took good care of her throughout the entire ordeal. You could all guess how things went from there.

I think it could be fun but I could it not being everyone’s cup of tea.

I went hiking on my first date. It was fun. Getting married in July. He said he didn't really want to go. I suggested it, however, he also said that there was no way he was going to turn down my date.

I think it’s charming and you may actually have fun.

I grew up skating. A guy in hockey skates still does something for me.

Bad idea for a first date. I went on a second date with a guy to a pretty out door rink and we had planned to have hot chocolate after. I was an ok skater, he had never been before but figured it couldn’t be that hard. Wrong. He clung to the wall and my arm the whole time and it was not fun. He pulled me down a couple times and my jeans were soaked. At the end I was too frustrated to enjoy hot chocolate and just wanted to go home. It’s not easy to have a conversation when you’re trying to skate, even if you are both on the same level.

As a later date I think it could be fun. But the first time when you’re trying to get to know each other, no.

Heck yes! Ice rink during DC summer is my idea of heaven.

Then again, I grew up in Duluth. My view on skating is a little warped.

Actually, I love ice skating as an activity, so I would be up for it. Would NOT be a good idea if you don't enjoy it or are not very good at it -- can be dangerous and painful!

Didn’t anyone see Rocky? Rocky and Adrian went ice skating on their first date.

Yeah. I like ice skating and would like this but wouldn't invite someone who had never done it before because it wouldn't be fun. Otherwise count me in! Even and actually especially in June; it's a nice way to get out of the heat and still do something active!

I used to live in Charlottesville, which has (or at least had) a skating rink that was open during the summer. We used to go all the time to get out of the heat. Personally, I think ice skating would be a fun date if both people were reasonably capable skaters.

Only if you are both skaters already. I love skating indoors and it’s pretty quiet in summer but it wouldn’t be fun if I didn’t know how to skate. Btw, when I was single, ice skating was my standard fifth or sixth date.

Sounds very cutsie and millennial.

Exactly. First date always drinks with option to extend to dinner.

I took my wife ice skating for one of our early dates. She fell instantly on her butt and was sore at me about that for years. Still married me though.
