Love it! I know one IRL and have always thought it was pretty name. |
| The only soraya I know was egotistical and heinous but I say that just to say it's definitely a real name. I couldn't use it because of the association but it's a pretty name that is not made up. |
| Love it, likely because the Soraya I know is the most wonderful woman. I think it’s a beautiful name. |
+1 |
| I think it’s beautiful. I looked it up once and I believe it’s persian/Arabic. I’m lily white as is DH so I’d personally not want to look like a cultural poser but I’d use it otherwise! |
| Name her Maya. |
| no. no pls no. |
| I know more than one and like the name. Go for it. |
Psoriasis was my first thought too. Ugly name. |
|
OP here, ok ok, sounds like enough people associate it with medical conditions.
What are some similar names? Thanks! |
Are you looking for a particular ethnicity or do you just like the sound? Soraya can be both Spanish and Persian so not sure if you want Spanish or Persian names in particular. I love the Arabic name Saddiyya which has a similar feel, but I also like Soraya. |
I like Spanish, Persian, Arabic names generally. Ideally a longer name that could have simple, not too cutesy nickname (i.e. Soraya/Raya). |
| I don’t care for it, OP. Sorry. |
|
I am the Saddiyya poster.
I also really like these, some lend themselves to nicknames better than others. Persian Darya Maryam Shireen (Shira for a NN?) Sima Arabic Aida Alya Amira (Mira?) Galila (Lila? Hadiyya (Diyya?) Nadia Na'ima Sabriyya (Briyya?) Safiya I also really like Soraya. If you love it, I wouldn't let the others here dissuade you. |
