And like others have said, if you see it, your child can't unless a story. You have to own that you can't really monitor. Likewise, even the stories, if you view it first, their friend can see that it was viewed and may be wondering why no comment, etc.

?? Why are you adamant that they PLEASE DO NOT screenshot?? Are you 15?

You can also go in and look at their memories if you choose. Warning though, you will get an eyeful. They're very edgy on Snapchat. Have seen much more than I really honestly wanted to stay with me now 16-year-old.

How do you find their memories?

NP here. Screenshot is supposedly bad etiquette because the whole idea of snap chat is that it is meant for the intended recipient at that moment in time and not for others. Screenshot means you have an intention to keep or forward.

That said, I tell my teen that I will screenshot teaching moments. After a while interest wanes especially since we don’t give them data and things are no longer in the moment as they would like it. Wifi at home is too boring and life is more interesting outside with activities than sitting at home all day awaiting texts. My teen has uninstalled Snapchat but they do still use insta. (which has an account in my phone) and I check theirs for parallel profiles and fake and real instas

There are tweens and teens stupid enough the snapchat their boobies, penis, butt, etc and if someone screenshots it and distributes, you can a child porn case on your hands complete with legal action and even in some cases the FBI.

Has anyone successfully used a spyware app for SnapChat?

I haven’t seen one. But if I don’t trust my teen that much then I don’t give it to them. Spyware always have a work around.

It’s a HUGE time suck but it’s also how they connect. It also sucks in that, unless in ghost mode, you can see if a bunch of your friends are together and you’re not there.

You can (and kids do) use a 3d phone to take a picture of the screen if you are fast enough. So, if you are "snooping" you can just use your phone to take a pic of the screen. I've seen my friend's HS age kids do that as well (take a pic of the phone screen with another phone). No notice will be given to the person of the "snap."

DD just turned 12. I told her I have to part of the group so that I can monitor bullying to her. Damn those mean girls!

It's how teens are sending nudes to each other.

Evidently I am "the only parent of a 7th grader who doesn't allow SnapChat."

There are two of us.

Occasionally I will ask my teen to sit with me while she looks at the snaps she's been sent. Kind of a random inspection, although I just keep half an eye on her screen while she's doing it. It's a tough one though, not sure there is a perfect solution.

snapchat is the devil. Impossible to monitor. Our daughter has approx 100 friends on Snap. she got to school with all of them--no strangers. That said, she gets unsolicited penis pics almost daily. The pics disappear 3 seconds after viewing. The she gets these pics, she either unfollows that classmate or just does not open their snaps any more.

I was less concerned about our teen son. I figured that he wouldn't get penis pics or at least he'd get less. Well, let me tell you, he gets some of the filthiest pics and videos from his female school mates. Not much offends me, but the content that teenage females send him is xxxxx rated-- whole body videos, toys, sounds. It's disturbing and sad AND illegal to produce, distribute or save/screenshot. yikes.
