I know someone who got the Johnson scholarship. Because he got the scholarship, his parents gave him the $400,000 they put away for college. Like pp have said- rich kids and very greek. |
| Gorgeous campus, cute little town immediately adjacent, fantastic academics. Current president is moving the school in a positive direction, dealing with Lee’s complicated legacy. |
Sounds like they planned well for college. Shame on them. |
| Far too much Greek and drinking. |
|
It's a Greek or nothing type of school, if your kid doesn't go Greek, it's a waste of time and money.
It's decent, places people into NYC consulting. Not the best, as in placing people into Wall St. banking. |
Tell us where you were educated. That would be a place to avoid. What a moron. |
Don't worry, you don't have to avoid it since you and your spawn would never even have the luxury and intelligence to make that decision. |
| Very Greek and preppy, but also a good school. Definitely visit and see if your kid likes the overall vibe, some kids do and some don’t. |
|
Excellent academics. Top notch teaching.
But it is very much a well to do kid's school. It is a preppy school, make no mistakes about it. If you're gay or person of color you'll probably be quite happy as long as you're also preppy. A visit is required. All the W&L grads I've met have ended up well in life. And the women marry well. |
They did. No shame. The point is that the Johnson scholarship’s existence doesn’t somehow disprove the repeated responses that it’s a rich kid school. |
Nor does your single data point refute it. |
So choosing Washington and Lee would be an intelligent choice? Glad you came around. |
| whats wrong with greek and preppy, would make for some well behaved and courteous students. |
| Some of the Jefferson and Robertson Scholars are wealthy too. This doesn’t mean they are any less deserving or that their parents don’t have the right to use the money they’ve saved for another purpose. |
who said that? |
