you obviously didn't do your homework. you can get a 4 bed house in Calabasas for less than $1mil, with a pool.

Of an HHI of $250, in less you have a good downpayment, $1mil is insane.

not true - it's not "insane". You're being a bit dramatic here. It will be a bit tight on a monthly basis but it is certainly not insane, or undoable.

I make 120k per year.

Single no kids.

I rent and live in the valley.

It sucks.

Looking to move as soon as I can (job wise).

I’ve lived in LA for 12 yrs

Not sure why you can’t live comfortably on $120,000. It may be difficult to buy a single detached house in a nice area on that income though.

My rent is 2300 per month.
Car payment 600
Insurance and health insurance
Gas
Utilities
Phone
Gym

After taxes 120000 isn’t that much in LA. Especially living alone

Yes, living alone is a budget killer. That's why so many young folks in cities live in group houses or with a roommate until they shack up with a significant other.

$450k, 1 kid, private school, live in the valley, take multiple vacations every year (but I also try not to waste money on useless crap and tons gifts as well - more about experiences).

I live comfortably but I'm not swimming in money - still modest compared to most other families at school (as a point of comparison, not because I care - I couldn't be happier apart from the fact that I work when most moms don't).

wow! why so nasty! I know this is an older post but jeez! You can't always choose a job that's close to where you live - but you know that.

try not to stain the LA forum with your DC attitude.
