Why am I paying for private when Wilson HS (DCPS) admits are this good?

However, this week is DCPS spring break and many people I know are taking their kids around to accepted schools to make their college decisions. These kids from Wilson were accepted at Carnegie Mellon, Northwestern, Michigan, UCLA, NYU, Vassar, Pomona, Cornell, Brown, Oberlin and Swarthmore. Typical smart white kids. Nothing out of the ordinary. And this is just the handful of kids I know from my block and/or siblings of kids from our DCPS elementary. So why am I paying for private next year again? I’ve found Deal to be uneven at best but it doesn’t seem to make one bit of difference (if college admission is the end game).

Add Dartmouth, Brown, Vandy & Princeton to the list of where Wilson 2019 kids are going.

How’d the bottom quarter do?

I think you mean “how’d the bottom three quarters do”.

So you’re concerned about how your kid will fare because they’ll likely be in the bottom quarter? Is that it?

Wow. You're a douche.

I think the PP is asking for a more holistic view of how the school is doing, rather than cherry-picking the top kids.

Because only 20% of Wilson students meet basic proficiency standards for reading and math.
Hopefully your private can beat that.

Yes, I understand about 25% of the class at each of the Big 3 ends up in th bottom quarter. Go figure.

DP. I don’t know if my kid will be bottom quarter or not. Why would I take chances?

Yes, 25% is equal to one quarter! Good job!

This. USNWR ranking of college isn’t my endgame. It’s the journey, and no one will ever convince me that the education quality is comparable at Wilson and Sidwell US.

Wow, you’ve pretty much set yourself up for a life of disappointment and regret and your children for therapy if you think college admissions is the “end game” of HS.

Please explain to me how Wilson gets an 'A' with 19%-21% reading and math proficiency???

And schools with 70% proficiency get a 'B' or 'C'?

Yeah, the top 10% from any semi decent public high school will go to the colleges OP listed. Yawn. It’s the other 90% we want to hear about.
