How much to install a sliding glass door?

Anonymous
We just bought 3 new doors at Lowe’s, Pella brand total for just the doors was $17k and that was with the 15% off promotion last month.

2 doors were custom size but 1 was standard size and only a tad cheaper than the custom sized ones.

Our contractor (not Lowe’s) is going to install all three for $1,300.

I’d say if you can get a decent door installed for under $2,500 you’re doing alright.

I’m a contractor in SC. The going rate here is 400-600.00 for labor. The job shoiid take about a 1/2 day unless..,
Siding repairs or interior trim repairs are extra if needed and are estimated on site for approval

We got a quote for $1000 for install not including door. That seems insanely high to install a door which is going to take, what, a couple of hours at most?

Somewhat related...we're looking at an Anderson door at Home Depot that we were told by a different handyman was a decent door. If you have any recommendations for a good sliding door, let me know.

How did you come up with the schedule of a couple of hours ?

Is it based on your years of experience installing doors ?

Or did you pull it out of your a$$ ?

What is your scope of work ?

How much does the door weigh ? How many man do you need ? Who is disposing of the original ? Does it need a copper pan ? If so, who is providing ? Who is installing the casing ? What type of siding ? Does he have to recase the interior ? Does he have to paint ?

Does he have to drive to your house or is he commuting in his time machine ?

Are you equipped to adequately judge the job to ensure it is properly installed ? Given your expertise on estimating and pricing can I assume that's a yes...

Or it is safer to assume that you are PITA.

Is it safe to assume you have a Let's Go Brandon, FJB, or plain old Trump sticker on your truck? Some customer service attitude you have.

That’s not insanely high.

We were quoted 1.5k recently for installation and all materials except the door to replace our steel front door and frame.

Home Depot uses local contractors for installation services. My quote above is from them.

This thread is from 2019. Prices have gone up since then.
