Negative outcome from both Takoma Park and Eastern wait pools

NP here.
OP, last year, my DC was rejected outright from the magnet school (although she had a score that was on par with the Eastern magnet). So our only choice was the home MS. As a result of the many high-scoring kids that were rejected last year, MCPS created 2 enriched courses in her home MS.

This is all to say that you could put some energy (while you remain in the waitlist, should you choose to do so) into looking into what enriched classes will be offered for your DC in the home MS, and making sure that your DC is 'invited' to be those courses rather than slipping through the cracks. This will give you a little bit of something to look forward to should the waitlist not work out.

PP here. Is that a change? (We did this a few years ago). If so, what a bummer. Do they say this somewhere overtly? If not, I say why not! (But make sure it's good).

My kids both went to TPMS magnet. I found the coordinator to be very considerate. I sent in some info regarding my kid (before decisions were made). I didn't receive any response, but I think they heard me. I mailed it.

Yeah, in the FAQ, it says no recommendation letter from teachers.

OP here - thanks for all the information. It is my fault. I got my own expectations up since DC was on wait list for both. I misjudged the wait pool situation.

PP here. Sorry to hear it. I think that sticks, especially when they don't get recommendations in the main process. It seems like it's so much more focused on the test now, even though the report said that the testing was biased towards the socio-economic groups that valued and could afford test prep. I think teacher recs are valuable to balance and offer more info. Oh well. Maybe there is something else on the list you can send. It's not over until Fall!

I think the only thing that will help it this point would be if your child had an amazing MAP-M score in the winter, or if the spring test is taken in time for the Level 2 appeal. They're looking for new information that wasn't available before that they could have considered if it had been available in time.

DC got accepted to TPMS after initially being not recommended based on a very high winter MAP-M score. We appealed both Eastern and TPMS, but the winter reading score didn't have a significant change. The rest of the appeal was almost identical, mostly about showing DC is a stellar all-around student with great writing, research, and other skills, but remained rejected from Eastern.

My kid was also put on waitpool for Clemente after not being recommended after appeal. May I ask what was your daughter map-m.

My kid”s Map m went up by 9 points and we appealed based on that. I don’t think sprin map-m will be in time enough ?
