Send your kid to school. You are not doing him any favors. |
This. It's the simplest solution and also the correct one. |
How about....send your kid to school? |
Do you really want your kid to be the oldest dunce in the class? Much of life is psychological, you know? |
If he needs more than preschool, he needs KINDERGARTEN!!!
What a dummy. |
It isn't your kid. You don't have all (or even many) of the facts. Why do you all care so much what the OP does with her kid? |
Waaaahhhh, my kid needs “the gift of another year,” so I’m going to redshirt him.
. . . Waaaaaahhhhh, my kid is so advanced and bored, now I need to supplement with outside academics so he doesn’t get bored. |
Says the mother of yet another geriatric kindergartners with executive functioning issues. |
Not quite. Just someone who thinks you should spend more time worrying about your own kid than others. |
Yes, and we also went to school as 4 year olds, some of us being December birthdays! |
I get that some kids may not be ready, but this part I don't get. If you decide to hold your kid back, for goodness sakes, live with your choices and don't complain that your kid isn't challenged. Perhaps if you had sent your kid on time, yes, even if you thought socially he might not be ready, or he's so small, your kid wouldn't need more challenge in school. BTW, both my summer kids went on time (one's birthday is just two weeks before the cutoff), and they are both almost the smallest in their entire grade. Yes, there were some social challenges. Yes, they are not very athletic. Yes, they don't like being the smallest in their grade. But, academically, they are fine. One is sufficiently challenged, the other is still bored (hopefully soon to be not so bored entering into a magnet program). |
DP.. kids don't live in a bubble in school. Kids in the classroom affect each other - both positively and negatively. |
A kid 3 or 4 weeks older than the oldest on time kid is going to mess up your kid? What if they move to Maryland or one of the many other states with a Sep 1 cutoff? Then they would be right on time in a K class next year. |
Isn’t it also isolating to be the oldest kid in your class? Like for girls if you get your period or have to wear a bra months bf your peers, that can be very embarrassing to a child. |
Why are you calling kindergarteners “geriatric?” That’s extremely dramatic. This kid was redshirted with a September birthday. He’ll be, at most, a month older than the oldest on-time kid (a kid with an October birthday). There will probably be other redshirted summer birthday children as well. |
