Or call the public health department in your city. They might have info on clinics that treat malaria, dengue, etc. If you do have malaria they are going to want you to get treated ASAP.

I am in Miami. I am calling the health department now.

Op here. Everyone refers me to the emergency room. I also called general doctor's as well.

This. Go to a hospital and wear a mask wherever you go please.

You should take everyone’s advice about ER. It likely is just a virus, however—since it’s been going on longer than a week (is that correct?), it needs to be taken seriously (just in case it’s something worse). Good luck!

Dumb, dumb yourself for misspelling malaria and for not realizing it is contagious. A mosquito bites OP and the mosquito can gets protozoan organism in its blood. It matures and when mosquito bites her husband- bam! Protozoa from mosquito's saliva get deposited in OP hisband's blood and now he has malaria. So no mask but watch out for those mosquitos in Miami.

Google tropical medicine Miami.

OP can also try a more ordinary infectious diseases doctor. But in DC at least it would be a miracle to get an appointment quickly.

How high is your fever without meds? Or are you taking a fever reducing med like Tylenol or Advil?

Urgent care is better than nobody and they may be able to refer you to a specific medical office if they think you have something tropical.

Op here. I understand this. I thought that I would have to pay out of pocket and see if we can get reimbursed later. Is there a specific form or document I should ask for so I can submit it to the health insurance company later? I have never had to do this before.

No, you pay up front. They give you paperwork to file the claim on your own. Truthfully you need to worry about your health FIRST. Just charge it on your credit card.

It's actually a different species of mosquito. Our mosquitoes can't transmit Malaria or Dengue. Lots and lots (and lots) of people come back from travel around the world with these diseases, and we have zero domestic transmission. So OP should go and get treated, but her family and community shouldn't worry.

Gosh, if I had a fever after returning from India then you can bet I'd go to an ER of a proper hospital. Who the heck knows what you caught there.

And what the heck is "traveler's fever" anyway??? It sounds like a more PC way of saying "your stomach isn't used to dealing with third world conditions so you're naturally sick with god knows what". Is that it??

Just go to an ER. And consider also preemptively treating yourself for parasites. Those things can live for decades doing damage without being detected.

OP here. I wanted my husband to tell HR which plan we were going to go with today. He's been so casual about everything. My fever is back now. I will go to the ER tomorrow.
I wish I had more support from my husband. He can be such a dick.

OP, my friend almost died of malaria after coming home from travels with malaria even though she was in a hospital and they diagnosed it properly. Malaria is no joke - why not go to the ER tonight? What are you waiting for?

You can’t get reimbursed always. What if you choose blue cross blue shield but didn’t go to a doctor that accepts that insurance? That would mean no reimbursement
