| Troll level: journeyman. A lot of work put into a pretty marginal troll, but the fact that independent schools discussion strikes so close to the heart for so many on DCUM likely gives it some impact. |
| One good point-let your child decide!! In 9th grade, you need your child to have the buy-in with the school they attend so that they will make the decision to go and do well. As a parent, that is very hard to force in a 14 or 15 year old. |
| Sometimes Holton parents seem to be giving GDS a run for their money, with the over-the-top posts about how their school is the bestest ever. I’m sure it’s a great school, but posts like this don’t help the case. |
The best school is the one that your child is happy at that can best meet their needs. |

It is because decision are coming out that they post! It's an encouragement to keep an open mind, good advice. Thank you OP. Sometimes what we think we want is not really the best choice. |
| Wait, "community" at Holton? Maybe in Lower School, but no way school wide. Upper school parents do not mix with Lower School parents. And then in lower school they invite you to an event at 1:30pm and then tell you to leave at 2:30 and not wait around until school lets out. they don't want you to walk your child into school and the teachers think its beneath them to be in carline. Holton's academics are not top notch in the least. Many schools are superior so I would be careful at how grateful your acceptance of Holton. Its not all what you think. Look long and hard before you decide. |
Everyone has their own experience, but the one described here is nothing like the one we've had at Holton. We are quite happy there. |
What are you babbling about?!? If you’re not happy, move on. It’s that easy. |
Someone's daughter didn't get enough playdates. |

Sometimes one sees posts that ask “If you have the money, why not send your kids to private school?”
OP is the answer—pretty much my worse stereotype of a private school family. Making me very happy about our public school choice! |
| Your post does the same for us. Glad we went private. |
| When reading the OP’s post, it sounded fake from the first few sentences. I’m a former Holton mom and while our DD enjoyed her time there in middle school, the way the post is written doesn’t carry a ring of authenticity. Not taking anything away from any of the schools mentioned, but I call troll. |
Barf. Anyone who posts about crying and being angst-ridden over turning down one snooty private for another deserves unfetttered scorn. The OP may be satire, but if so it’s well done. The revolution appropriating your excessive wealth and forcing you to confront the same problems as 99.9% of the planet can’t come soon enough. |
