Who has failed or barely passed a security clearance?

My (completely uninformed) guess is that for a low level clearance, you are ok saying you haven't done any in the last year because they have no other way of finding out. You could probably say you did it a few years ago without getting in too much trouble?

Most clearances - even TS’ don’t require polys. It more common in the Intel sector but not so much in the DoD or Civilian agencies. Not worth the costs.

CI poly's are required for DIA SCI adjuration.

Full Scope for some other agencies, particularly if you are in house.

What if you haven't reported foreign travel (vacations) prior to the trip? I guess every agency is different, but I recall in 2015, the investigator didn't ask about my travel until it was time to renew my TS.

Your'e clueless... always request permission and report when you get back or you are risking your clearance. Every agency is different but always report and usually its fine but don't report and its a problem.

Question for you all.

I know a guy who broke up with his russian girlfriend because she wouldn't denounce her russian citizenship on his request. He was afraid he could lose his clearance, not sure if it was top secret or not. She has dual citizenship but didn't want to lose russian one because her parents are getting old and she wants to be able to visit them without issues. They dated for year or so, I thought that was an excuse to break up. Could dating someone with dual citizenship risk someone's clearance? What about being married to someone with dual?

It depends on the agency, but yes, he may have needed to to keep his clearance.

I know foreign travel reporting for TS/SCI is required prior to the trip, but our FSO didn’t see too concerned with those with TS and below traveling international.

Yes. You have to report any foreign friends. Being married would definitely be a bigger issue.

Ha! This happened to my DH when we went on a Disney Cruise. He had no clue their private island was in the Bahamas until the disembarkment announcement. When he filed the paperwork after he went back to work the security officer just laughed.

All of this hullabaloo is a big part of why I moved on from doing “the DC thing.”

For what it’s worth I did receive a secret clearance with extensive international travel and a then-boyfriend-now-husband from a less than friendly country.

How do you not pay attention to those things if you have a clearance? It is drilled into you.
