What are folks doing for MS EOTP?

Macfarland zoned family here with late/ mid elementary students. Not on a bilingual track and will also be taking a hard pass on MacFarland.
Hope to lottery anywhere better and if we don’t get anything via lottery, will consider renting WOTP or leaving DC.

Currently in the 3rd grade and hope to "win" the lottery for a feeder with a decent MS.

Why won't you give McFarland a chance to mature before you "hard pass". You are very lucky to have a center feeder.

We think the English-only path won't be supported or as rigorous as the Spanish track.

Why do you think that? Have you met the principal and talked to him?

NP: The evidence can be seen on how DCPS invests in the Bilingual feeder schools compared to the English-only feeder schools. Families can see the the English-only schools get no specialized programs to make them desirable like the bilingual schools. We would only consider the Spanish track at MacFarland. No interest in having our kids in a second class program.

I suppose you could try for ITS, don't know how realistic that is, but might as well put it down if you have a slot for it.

Private after doing a Charter...won't gamble for middle school!

I think it can happen. They are trying to grow the middle school to have two classes in each grade rather than one, but retention isn't great, so they need to backfill.

DCI. At a feeder.

Just curious, do you own or rent right now?

People nearest to me have tried for Latin, DCI, BASIS, Cap City, Hardy. A couple I know have gone to a Mont Co private for MS, then attended a DCPS application school.

Many others lottery every single year to get into a Deal/Wilson feeder, starting in PK. It's not likely but with a good lottery number quite a few have gotten in.

We’ll be giving up a 7th grade spot next Fall.

We are taking a hard pass on macfarland. The feeders all send weak cohorts. That takes decades to turn around. DECADES of gentrification. Any parent “taking a
Chance” on middle school when they have options are nuts and irresponsible. Brookland middle is a total bust academically and they have failed to attract IB UMC families. The stupid fight for Shaw middle
School will also fail. Until
DC creates a legit test in model, which they want due to fear of racism, the. UMC families will bail
Until there is a critical mass. Deal is there. Hardy is next. Stuart Hobson third. And I have friends who started advocated for SH in the late 90s. It’s almost there.

I see you.
Learned how to parse paragraphs.
and capital letters.
from your "macfarland" feeder child.

Ya'll need to cool off.

PP here. Kid is in a Spanish immersion feeder. Still have no expectations the school will have serious academics. And by that I do t want my kid in a class where 2/3 aren’t meeting grade level.

What do UMC stand for? I see it everywhere here but don’t know what it means, thanks!
