Payment for weekend sitter?

If you think she is expecting payment, ask her or ask her mom what is reasonable. A token payment would probably be well received, but definitely discuss it with her up front. And, you can say you want to come to something reasonable for both, so that if you and she do it again you are both comfortable.

Nieces don’t owe you free labor.

Enjoy yourself OP because your niece is going to find out how you screwed her and she's never going to sit for you again plus she will tell all her friends how you cheated her. You are persona non grata to every babysitter in the neighborhood.

OP I think $300 is pretty fair (and I babysit part-time).

I was the original $300 poster. This is what we paid our former au pair for a weekend of babysitting and everyone was happy.

300 minimum, I'd pay $350. (More if I could afford it)
To the person who suggested $100 total...you are nuts!

$300÷ 44 hours = $6.82/hr, not even minimum wage.

What you did was illegal and I hope somewhere along the line that you get caught

$100 for sleeping hours and regular hourly rate for awake hours. For our sitter, that is $20/hr.

What former part? She was having her au pair work way over 45 hours and paying her. Both of which are against au pair policy.
