Ok school me. What other politicians have legislated food policy to America? Besides Michelle Obama’s unpopular and gross school lunch program?

Michelle Obama did not create the school lunch program. She also didn't create agricultural subsidies, nor did she create state and local food taxes, or SNAP, or other policies that affect what food is produced, how much it costs, and what people eat.

<whispers> And she wasn't even a legislator.

Crazy, right?

No American "needs" meat or animal by-products. It is a want, not a need.

The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (Pub.L. 111–296) is a federal statute signed into law by President Barack Obama on December 13, 2010. The bill is part of the reauthorization of funding for child nutrition (see the original Child Nutrition Act). The bill funds child nutrition programs and free lunch programs in schools for the next 5 years.[1] In addition, the bill sets new nutrition standards for schools, and allocates $4.5 billion for their implementation.[1] The new nutrition standards have been a point initiative of First Lady Michelle Obama in her fight against childhood obesity as part of her Let's Move! initiative.[2] In FY 2011, federal spending totaled $10.1 billion for the National School Lunch Program.[3] The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act allows USDA, for the first time in 30 years, opportunity to make real reforms to the school lunch and breakfast programs by improving the critical nutrition and hunger safety net for millions of children.[4] Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act and Michelle Obama were a step in transforming the food pyramid recommendation, which has been around since the early 1990s, into what is now known as "MyPlate".

This is actually not a controversial statement. He didn't say he was going to legislate veganism -- the OP just made that up -- he said we have to consider policies to reduce our consumption of so much meat.

"We need to consider policies to encourage sustainable agriculture"

"THEY ARE GOING TO BAN MEAT"

"We should make our streets safe for all users by narrowing lanes, lowering speed limits, adding bulb outs, etc"

"THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE AWAY YOUR CAR"

"We should tax carbon emissions"

No Americans need a car, a house, or vacations.

Let’s legislate tents, walking, and no air or care travel- and I am not AOC.

Didn't Obama do ANYTHING?

My bet - we will have bio engineered microbe created "meat" before we have fully autonomous vehicles.

How about we just tax the green house gas emissions from air and car travel and from livestock raising, and let the market decide how to balance things?

That link does not support the claim that Michelle Obama created the school lunch program. Her husband (you know, the guy who was actually President at the time) signed a law RE-authorizing the Child Nutrition Act, which was originally passed in 1966. The National School Lunch Program began in 1946.

"We should make plane travel unnecessary."

AOC: "My plan does not say that."

<displaying the document taken from her website>. "Yeah, it does."

It’s news to me a man running for President wants to legislate food and create food policy, yes.

I don’t think the government should tell citizens how and what to eat.

True, but we can ensure that the appropriate costs for foods that have expensive externalities are appropriately priced, rather than subsidized. If you want to smoke and drink alchohol, you pay an extra tax that covers the health care impacts. If you want to eat mass produced cows and pigs, same thing, you should pay the actual cost for it. Why should that be subsidized?

So healthy foods are gross? Do you know what percentage of a heinz ketchup bottle is sugar? Hint, about 1/2.

I hate ketchup. I am sure you put it on your ballpark hot dog.
