| Why is she so great? Crime is up, school progress is stalling, and nearly two months into the new year, DC can’t even pick up Christmas trees. |
DC native here. Bowser is great because she represents the status quo and DC's old guard establishment. Common sense, ethics, logic, and being great are apparently not what most residents in this city want. Dysfunction, disorganization, and a culture of low expectations are what is valued here. DC can be backwards. Oftentimes, it operates like a developing city with lots of corruption and chaos. The mentality here is built on dysfunction. It would take years to dismantle that type of thinking in this city. Yes, DC has made great strides over the years, but it is delusional to think that a real change is going to happen real soon. Bowser will win not because she is great, but because DC residents fear placing an effective person in the mayor's seat. Also, race and ethnicity come to play as well. I'm going to be honest here. DC residents will never vote for a white mayor it is not going to happen during my lifetime. It does not matter if the candidate is great or not. As long as the candidate is black and adheres to the old guard they will have a shoe in period! Bowser is not the one who needs to change. It is the mentality of DC residents. So, the real question is why do DC residents continue to vote for the status quo? Great in DC equates to status quo. Bad in DC equates to effectiveness. Some DC residents behave like abused victims with Stockholm Syndrome. Instead of wanting improvement from a dysfunctional city, residents vote for more years of dysfunction. Yes, bring on the increase crime, low quality schools, and poor services I can't wait!

I wouldn't be so sure about this. With the current demographic trends in DC, I am expecting a non-African American mayor within the next 20 years. It will likely come in the form of an Independent candidate running in the general election. |
Reported for racism |
I don't disagree with what you're saying, but how many voters have school aged children in public schools in DC? (Serious question, I don't know the answer) |
Yup Remember Catania got 36% of the vote in 2014 and that was with Schwartz being a spoiler and taking another 7%. Bowser was barely over 50% |
It's a very small number overall and most of the public schools folks are actually black and would be voting "a certain way" regardless |
Thanks, I suspected there wasn't enough critical mass from public school parents to affect the election. It seems like lots of DC residents don't have kids (or school-aged kids) and don't pay attention to school issues. In our previous fun neighborhood, lots of the young single people didn't even know what their in boundary schools were. |
She is corrupt and an idiot. You've got to be kidding. What has she done? No vision, DCPS a mess, people who work for her hate her, where do my taxes go, crime is up, DC General fiasco, she's made all her cronie friends rich (I know them), she doesn't listen. What has been great? |
| She won reelection so clealry shes been great. Ypure just jealous and probably racist. |
Plus she has no skills. What would she do? |
Really? I'm black with a kid at Wilson. I voted for Catania as did lots of our black friends. You're an idiot and are perpetuating ignorance and racism. |
I'm black who actually cares about my community. I pay attention. There is NOTHING about Bowser that I would be jealous about. I know her. She is dull, boring and not very smart. I've known her for years. I know lots of people who pretend to be her friend b/c they get stuff from the city. I don't know anyone who really likes her. I thought she was weird before she ran for Council. Signed, someone who lives in Colonial Village (I know the crowd) |

Can DC get Mayor Tony Williams back again ?!
Best mayor ever. |
Does DC stand for dysfunctional city? |
