Turning Left

The challenge is that very few people actually turn into the lane they are legally supposed to turn into. If there is only one lane of traffic that you are both turning into then the person turning right legally has the right of way. Of course that doesn't matter if the person turning left is a jerk.

Nope, nope, nope. What if I’m turning right onto a one way road and I want to be in the left lane because I need to go left ahead? Left turners never have the right away if other cars are there.

I think deference should be given to the left turning person, particularly if they're in the median waiting to move. You can turn right at just about any time you want. Left turners have to wait for all 4 lanes to be clear. If all 4 lanes are clear, they should get to go and not wait on that annoying SLOW right turning person. It's a pet peeve of mine how slow people are to make right turns. Just do it and stop holding up traffic. You don't need both lanes to be clear.

You must be a terrible driver if your right turn takes up their lane.

You are supposed to turn into the right lane and just use that for your turn. Then, when it is safe and clear to do so, you put on your left lane change blinker and move over to the left lane. Is that so difficult to understand?

You must turn into the right hand lane and then change lanes to the left lane.

You do not have the right to just take the left lane.

I bet you hit the curb with your tires.

No no, they are not waiting for their chance at all. If they were I wouldn't be posting. They are turning at the same time as if they have the right of way. If I just turn into the curb lane without regard for them one of us is going to have damage, either I am going to have front end driver side damage or they will have front end passenger side damage because we will both occupy the same space briefly while turning and straightening out in the lane (relatively close quarters here) - most driver do wait their chance to make the left because that is what is safe. I am talking about the few that don't.

You need to learn how to turn into your lane. If you can't you are wrong. You can't go into their lane. You have the right of way in your lane only.

If they turn into their lane and are not in your lane and you hit them because you turn wide or your car is too big, you are at fault.

You're missing the point

It does not matter how long they take. Turn into your lane and they turn into their. Don't wide turn and use their lane.

Ehh they're trying to make a right turn and they're playing chicken. Keep inching forward acting like they'll hit me but also they just can't seem to make a timely right turn to save their life.

I am turning right. I have the right of way. Why should I then have to stop or merge into traffic with the person who was supposed to yield to me? The intersection I’m thinking of is Lee Highway and Washington Blvd entrance to 66, btw.

You only have the right of way into the right lane. You don't have the right of way into the left lane, they do.

Its the same as if people are going straight and you are turning on right on red. You have the right of way for the right lane if nobody is in that lane. They can't change lanes in the middle of an intersection because they decide they need to get in the right lane to turn into Starbucks.

Why can't you understand? You can only turn into ONE lane. Then you can merge. It doesn't matter if someone else is yielding or not.

You should yield the right-of-way to:
• the driver who is at or arrives before you at
the intersection;
• drivers in the opposing traffic lane, when you
are making a left turn;
• the driver on your right, if both of you arrive at
the intersection at the same time;
• drivers on a public highway, if you are entering
the highway from a driveway or a private road;
• drivers already on a limited access or
interstate highway, if you are on the entrance
or acceleration ramp;
• the driver on your right at a four way
intersection controlled by stop signs;
• pedestrians, bicyclists, and other drivers who
are still in the intersection;
drivers on the through highway, if you are at
a “T” intersection and you are entering the
through highway by either making a right or
left turn;
• other drivers, if you are approaching an
intersection with a Yield sign facing you.

Left turns
