| Good point. Seaton used to be harder to get into but between the principal at Garrison and the renovations, I wouldn’t be surprised if it becomes harder than Seaton to get into this year. I went to the open house at Garrison this week and was so impressed with Principal Kiplinger. He seems like the real deal. |

11. Whittier
12. Langley or the reverse, depends whether you or their father will be doing most drop offs/pick ups/nighttime care. |
| Garrison and Seaton are both becoming very difficult for PK3 and PK4. We got into Seaton by the skin of our teeth for PK4 with an OK middle of the road draw, but Garrison didn't budge much this year. The WL numbers look even more challenging for the year behind us, so I think these schools are now reaches for ECE. Agree with Langley (hearing great things for those who are there!) and also take a look at Friendship Armstrong. |
Good point - Friendship Armstrong is also well loved and for some reason often forgotten on here. |
I don't think FA will go unnoticed by the masses for too much longer, for the reasons noted above! |
I dont have any plans yet. I thought at Whittier as IB we would have a confirmed spot. Am I wrong? Also at Trusdell we would have proximity preference. Dont know between the two which is better |
As IB at Whittier you would likely get in. IB kids are first on the list, but there is not room for all of them. Last year, 9 IB PK3s were waitlisted. https://enrolldcps.dc.gov/node/61 They probably all got in by sometime in October. But the point is, it's not a 100% guarantee that you would get in. Do you feel like you need to get in somewhere? |
Yes...I currently pay a lot of money for childcare |
I am putting Langley on my list |
You do not have a guaranteed spot at Whittier but this year all in bound pre-K 3 kids got in, so it’s very likely. |
I think you're close to 100% to get into Langley and definitely 100% to get into Noyes. So if you have either of those on your list, you're all set. |
I think it's even harder for PK4 at those schools than PK3, because many PK3 kids stay, taking most of the slots. The only exception would be if a school opens up a new classroom for PK4 in a given year. (I've heard that might happen at Bancroft for SY19-20, btw- anyone have any info?) |
PK4 is easier at Seaton. They need to add kids each year because the class size is bigger. We got an offer despite having a terrible number. |
|
Do you have to choose only one IB, I imagine, between your two addresses?
I would probably choose Whittier, then list: 10. Langley 11. Whittier 12. Noyes Noyes should be a safe bet even without IB. But also consider Burroughs, perhaps just above Noyes. It's a decent school as well. |
You’re not the first person I’ve heard say this, including current Garrison families. What is so amazing about this principal? Can a principal really make that big a difference at a school? |
