Seaton/Trusdell/Garrison/Whittier?

Hi, I have two spaces to fill in my list for PK3 lottery. These would be on 11 and 12 on my list and would be schools in which my kid would have definite chance of getting in. Me and my husband are separated. my boundary school is Noyes and his is Whittier.

1. Between Noyes and Whittier which would you prefer? 2. Between Seaton/Trusdell/Garrison or any other school closer to me or my husband would you suggest? Thanks in advance.

Seaton has a very good reputation, but it is unlikely if not impossible that you will get in OOB. I can't speak to the Noyes/Whittier split, but I'd advise that you think about who will be dropping off and picking up most often because the time involved is pretty significant.

I'm not sure it's possible to get into Garrison OOB, either.

Between Noyes and Whittier, I'd rank Whittier higher.

I've heard great things about both Truesdell and Whittier.

They are all becoming hard to get into OOB and I'm not sure any are better than Whittier.

Do you have a plan for if you are waitlisted at Whittier?

What is the cost of aftercare at each?

Not necessarily true we had it lower on our list. End up wait listed in the 20-30s for Prk4 and got a spot offered. Due to the feeding pattern a number of familes go elsewhere.

If aftercare is a concern check out Seaton it is avoid school with aftercare spots for everyone. Not something you find at most other Dcps schools.

PK4 is much easier. PK3 is hard because of the small class size.

Whittier is a good option.

Check out Langley. The school is rapidly improving, and the PK3 - K program is excellent there. It's a few years behind seaton, but headed in the same direction.

Do you have an inbound school?

Her IB is Noyes.

Lots of people IB for Noyes attend Langley. Seaton is probably the stronger school, but if OP is looking for an option for a mediocre lottery number or a really bad number that keeps her out of Whittier, Langley is a good pick. I think Whittier is better than Langley though.

You are guaranteed a spot at Noyes and Whittier if you put it so if getting into at least one school is a priority for you then you should be prepared to be matched if you decide to put either one. My sense is that Whittier is stronger than Noyes.

You will not get into Seaton OOB and it is highly unlikely that you would get into Garrison OOB, especially if you put it that low on your list. Very few kids got in OOB last year and even less will this year. Both schools will be much more competitive to get into OOB because of the closure of Ross PK3.

If you are looking for a strong safety in Brookland, I would put Burroughs.

Is Seaton harder to get into than Garrison OOB? Garrison has the fancy reno and slightly higher scores, but that's really all I know about it.

The new principal is getting some traction and doubling down on music programming. As befits the location!

I think they are both pretty hard for PK3, much easier for Pk4. It depends on what OP's plan is. If she is content with Noyes in the event of a bad number, then sure, shoot the moon with hard to get into schools. If she wants something that is a safety as a step up from Noyes, Seaton and Garrison are not safe enough to fill that role.
