I know a lot of people recommend the new version, but we watched the entire thing and I have to say that as a die-hard SF fan (as is my wife) we did not enjoy this at all. All of the characters were despicable and unlikable. I like stories where you like the characters and want them to succeed and win. I honestly was not upset from any of the deaths, because I didn't really care for the characters (I liked one).

If you like dystopian futures full of anti-heroes, seemingly good people doing horrifically bad things and justifying them based on the situation, then you might enjoy this. We didn't.

The original is 70s fluff, not deeper than a puddle. The reboot is hands down the better version. This is similar to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, with Christy Swanson (complete fluff) and the series (which delved into deeper issues).

I will say, I could never get into Caprica, the post-reboot spinoff of BSG.

I loved Caprica, the actors in that show were so good it makes my heart ache, even 10+years later.

I want to rewatch it now.

But I haven't watched Caprica, might watch that instead!

Love the reboot. Not only is the storyline engrossing, I remember being very impressed with the diversity in cast. This was way before this topic became widely discussed in Hollywood.

Caprica - never could get into it.

Now I want to re-watch!

I binged it about five years ago. I loved the first two seasons, but I stopped liking it as it went on.

+1 Loved the original. but then again...I'm 53, so was a teen and was crazy about Apollo (even though Starbuck was cuter). I say start with the original. Re the newer version...we liked it at first, but then can't remember what season--it just got so weird and bad.

This is a documentary about how addicted my husband and I got to the BSG reboot:

It is so good even if it wraps up not super satisfyingly

I’m just getting around to BS on my list of “must watch” while I’m home recuperating. I’m starting with the 2 part miniseries. If I’m not loving it, how long would you recommend I give it before I give up (or I’m hooked)?

Make sure you have a lot of free time. Do not decide to watch one episode just before bed. Finale was a letdown. Watch Caprica, too!
