Battlestar Galactica

I see this recommended a lot here. What version is the best? There are a few choices on Prime and Hulu. Not sure about Netflix.

I watched first and liked the modern version. I went back to watch the original but haven’t finished it. I prefer the new version but I wonder if it’s becuase I watched it first.

The reboot, hands down. SO good.

Which is the reboot? How many episodes is it? One on prime has 2 seasons around 2005. Another version is just a Part 1 and Part 2.

I loved it until you know who died. I'm still upset.

You want the reboot, not the 70's original. There were a lot of seasons of the reboot, like 10 maybe? What you are seeing with parts one and two may be a standalone from the TV series. There were a few movies made as compliments to the series also. I think I cried when the series ended. Firefly is also a great one.

IIRC there was a tv movie that sets the stage for the tv show reboot, so it might be that “part 1 and 2” would be good to watch before you start watching the regular show.

Wikipedia says there was a 2 part miniseries in 2003 and then the series started in 2004.

Good pick! Definitely recommend watching the mini series first. I never saw the 1970s original but liked the new one. I recommend watching it with friends or at least another person since there are some themes that are interesting to hash out in real life conversation.

Ugh. I'm a fan of the original. I know a lot of people recommend the new version, but we watched the entire thing and I have to say that as a die-hard SF fan (as is my wife) we did not enjoy this at all. All of the characters were despicable and unlikable. I like stories where you like the characters and want them to succeed and win. I honestly was not upset from any of the deaths, because I didn't really care for the characters (I liked one).

If you like dystopian futures full of anti-heroes, seemingly good people doing horrifically bad things and justifying them based on the situation, then you might enjoy this. We didn't.

Great show!! I need to rewatch it at some point.

“What do you hear, Starbuck?”
“Nothing but the rain.”

Lol the reboot is about challenging your values and beliefs under extreme stress. It’s a fabulous show and the grit just adds a layer of meaning that fluffy nonsense can’t convey.

you want BSG S1 E1 started in 2003 and its a two part 'first' episode at 90 minutes each

then season one started again in 2004 with season 1 episode 1 named "33"

definitly watch the two parter episode first...

great great series....

The original is 70s fluff, not deeper than a puddle. The reboot is hands down the better version. This is similar to the Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, with Christy Swanson (complete fluff) and the series (which delved into deeper issues).

I will say, I could never get into Caprica, the post-reboot spinoff of BSG.
