Video Surveillance in Store Dressing Rooms

I've seen signs in the dressing rooms at Nordstrom Rack. I just buy at the store, try on at home and then return if needed.

There are "area under surveillance signs everywhere" Where have you been?

I've seen cameras in the hallway by the exit but not in individual stall/changing room-this part is illegal isn't it..

Privilege and Entitlement at its best. How do you folks not know that you are being watched everywhere in the store? I've always assumed that someone is always watching me in the store and in the dressing room.

Plus, it’s hot.

I think I saw you two on the amateur porn website. Gross.

If that were actually true, can you please post a link!?!? That would be hysterical if it was really us!!!

The gross part makes me skeptical tough, because we’re both in very good shape.

A guy just got arrested for video taping women in dressing rooms at Fair Oaks Mall. So it's not legal to record naked women unless you own a store.

Correct. The store is doing the video recording, not some perv.

What I can’t understand is how they get a pass on producing child porn? Because a minor female, photographed or recorderd nude or partially nude while changing clothes, would absolutely be considered child porn. How do stores get an exemption for this?

Forever 21 is a girls clothing store.

There should not have been a man allowed in those changing rooms.

You look good only to each other, but voyeurs like real looking people.

It’s true. I worked in retail in high school and I met with someone from loss prevention on the corporate side and he confirmed it to me.

I worked retail from 2010-2014ish (large department store with fitting rooms etc.) and the cameras weren’t in each individual fitting room, they were just in the hallway leading to the fitting rooms and around the racks where you can leave stuff you didn’t want. The fitting rooms weren’t attended like they are at TJ Maxx where an associate counts your clothes and hands you a card for however many items you have. There were also cameras right outside the restrooms. But nothing in the restrooms. I worked customer service which was right next to the restrooms, and LP would sometimes call the service desk and ask me to go in the restroom after someone they were keeping an eye on came out and to check for small packaging in the trash. People would smuggle small stuff into the restrooms (costume jewelry and makeup were common), take the item out of the packaging, discard the packaging, and keep the item.

The cameras were very powerful, even 5+ years ago. I imagine they’re even better today. Our LP guys could zoom in on items in a would-be shoplifter’s pocket in their hoodie or jacket and see them clearly.

This makes more sense

I don't see how cameras in toilet areas would be legal. That is an invasion on so many disgusting levels.

But if I'm wrong feel free to correct.

I NEVER and I mean NEVER shop at Kohls. There just isn't one near me and I think they are crap. I was back in California and there was one next to the gamestop where my kids/hubby were going. I was in the changeroom trying on something... (can't remember the last time before or since that I've used a changeroom. I usually just buy crap and return it online.) I looked up at the mirror and there was a ceiling camera pointed right at me, behind me, reflected in the mirror. I finished changing, opened the door and there it was, up above me. It probably could have looked at all the rooms next to me as well. I had not noticed it until I was undressed.

So I checked with management who told me it was a dummy camera and that it was actually focussed on another area, not the changeroom and I asked "which is it? If it's a dud, who cares where it's focussed, right?" and the guy kind of winced and clammed up. I was on travel but if I lived there I probably would have called local media to investigate.

Ever since that I stare up and all around in the mirror to be sure I can't see any cameras. I've always done they two way mirror test- my grandmother taught me that.
