This quote is always dug up and usually in defense of the kid who can't get past 50. Again, juggling is not the destination, it simply part of the journey. Proficiency at juggling simply means comfort and touch with the ball. There are very few solo activities that a kid can do to improve their touch more than juggling. You need nothing more than a ball, and in fact, short of a bowling ball, almost any ball will do. You don't have to kick the ball against a wall, you don't need a friend, just you, a ball, and your imagination. |
| I never got the point of juggling, other than it looks cool. Like trick shots. I don’t think it transfers into good play. Maybe an indicator of a player’s passion and commitment. Using other sports as an example, would bouncing a golf ball on a putter indicate a good golfer? Shooting half court shots or dribbling through the legs in basketball. I’ve never seen a coach ask a player to juggle at a tryout. |
 One last time. Juggling demonstrates comfort on the ball. Juggling demonstrates touch and control of the ball. You understand that you can use more than the top of ones foot and their knees right? Have you never seen a player trap a high bad pass? Have you never seen a kid trap a punt or lobbed pass? Have you never seen a kid volley a corner kick in for a goal? Have you never seen a kid one touch volley pass perfectly to a teammate? Have you never seen a player receive a bad pass and nonchalantly collect it as if it was perfectly weighted? Have you never seen kids gather in a circle and volley pass the ball around as part of a fun pre-practice warm-up? A kid who can juggle can do all of those things and make them look easy and they can probably juggle really well too. |
| Juggling is very important in developing a player's first touch for controlling the ball and it's key for controlling balls from in the air. That's if a player juggles properly. He should vary his touch, juggle with different parts of the body, and vary the height of the ball. |
+1 Johan |
OMG... Juggling is all about a player's touch on the ball. Which is only EVERYTHING in soccer... |
OMG

Another parent of a kid stuck at 30. |
Touch isn't important? Touch is simply the baseline of simple execution. Al of your kids beautiful off the ball movement to get open for a sweet overlap isn't worth a tinkers damn if their touch sucks. |
My daughter could execute a perfect Cruyff and Maridona at age 7. |
So could mine. But moves is not what juggling improves. |
Yeah but my daughter got picked before your daughter because she was a better player even though your daughter could juggle better. |
Sigh.... Being a good soccer player and being good at juggling are not mutually exclusive, but you wouldn't know that. |
That's awesome.... she might need to settle the ball out of the air under pressure before executing those moves. That's where first touch comes in. |
Please tell me one of you is making fun of the other. |
