R rated movies aren't that great.
But I LOVE Game of Thrones and West World type of R sex/violence. I think real life is more gory than PG13 wants you to think. |
| Ok so no one else is bothered by gratuitous sex and naughty words. I guess I really am turning into an old lady. |
+1 For the most part, R rated movies are over the top with language, violence, and the gore, but I don't neccessarily rule out movies simply b/c there's an R rating. I think there are some really good R rated movies out there where the gore and violence and language are a major part of the context of the movie - Saving Private Ryan, The Godfather, and the like. In fact, a lot of the historical-drama films (such as PLatoon, Gladiator, Schindler's List, etc.) are often R-rated b/c the violence and gore is so pivotal to the movie. |
naughty words? OK maybe you might be. gratuitous female nudity gets old AF though |
|
They are all too violent. Sex and cursing doesn't bother me much. But the insane amounts of violence I can't handle. And how every movie is some ridiculous attempt to top the last in the use of CGI.
Look at the next tier of film, not the stuff that goes to regular theaters. Netflix has really made a platform for this stuff. Check out what's happening at Sundance and other movie festivals. There are still great films being made, they just don't have the billion dollar budgets. |
| I'm 62 and you sound like a prudish granny to me OP |

*sitting down at the older persons table*
The gore doesn't bother me as much as the gratuitous sex scenes. I don't need the scene to dissolve to black before two characters get to it, but the long involved sex scenes are usually unecessary. We get it, producers, you CAN show the characters having repeated explicit encounters, but how does that really add anything? |
|
I'm with you OP. I see movies as a way to escape reality, relax or learn something new. Extreme violence and language don't do that for me.
As far as Girls goes, that's a different kind of distasteful to me. But I think Lena Dunham is disgusting so I can't watch that show because of her. |
I feel like if you wrote this in red as a comment in the script margin, the producers response would be---the public likes it and it will bring in more money. |

I'm 53 and I still enjoy some 'R' rated movies.
I do tend to really enjoy feel good sweet movies, too. They feel less...stressful...somehow. Less energy draining maybe? |
NP- funny, I found the violence in GoT so over the top that I cannot watch it. And I loved the books! |
It's usually the historical movies with an R rating that I love - Their Finest was R, The King's Speech was R, and both were anything but vulgar. I also loved Lady Bird and Eighth Grade, which were both rated R, but fitting and not especially vulgar. I really don't care for GOT or West World gratuitous violence. Although I have been known to sit through an episode or two of The Badlands. |

I hate the excess violence. I skip movies with it. There is so much real-world horror that I can't handle the movie horror.
I used to not mind the excess sex but now I wonder how much is coerced. |
Me too. I also think that now that I'm in my 40s, and i can have whatever kind of sex I want, and say whatever I want, and drink whatever I want, and I know just how awful the real world is, fictional people doing ridiculous, over-the-top stuff is just kind of boring. It's like I can see the person writing the script and thinking, "oooh! I know what's next!" |
Only movies like Saw or Hostel bother me. I could watch Goodfellas or Scarface 1,000 times. |
